Last week Great Ormond Street Hospital was filled with creativity, performance and laughter as GOSH Arts celebrated its 10 Year Anniversary with an amazing festival programme.

Charlene had the pleasure of directing the Birthday celebration parade and party, which included and working with the wonderful resident artists & Kinetika Bloco for the brilliant live carnival music & energy, .woolner for creating the tastiest looking giant cake hats to be danced in. Anna Bruder for designing a wonderful play space, stage and party signs, adding to the energy of the parade. Everyone became their own beatboxer with Conrad giving a great workshop and tunes with BAC Beatbox Academy.

Children, young people, parents, carers and staff had the opportunity to sing along with the actors from the West End musical Wicked, enjoy a relaxing sound bath, engage in some creative play and construction activities and make decorations for the wearable cake sculptures for our party parade - to name a few!

Here’s to another 10 years of GOSH Arts! 🎨 and all the valuable work they do 🌟

Thank you for having me deliver & share my knowledge of physical, creative approaches that can support engagement and expression at the wonderful Embrace, Professional Development Training held in March earlier this year.

So great to meet new artists & teachers in the sector & reconnect with familiar moving beings again.

Dance & movement allows connection between people & can provide a way to communicate for those whose voice was lost through dementia.

This spring, Charlene has been working with the brilliant on their Spark programme, with their Project Manager Priyanka visiting the wonderful residents and staff at Westport Care Home () & Silk Court Care Home (. exploring how can we weave more movement, dance, and music into the Spark programme.

The word Dance can feel quite daunting for people but introduced gently through small hand dances & simple gestures of copying & following allows everyone to be included.
An introduction of a vibrant, colourful elastic band is the next step creating a bridge allowing residents and staff to feel the physical pull and gentle stretch of one another without the need for direct touch. Each person holding the band could lead the group, creating a shared rhythm that was felt by everyone in the circle.

Ever grateful to Magic Me, for this wonderful programme.

Being able to dance again with this brilliant team of talented artists that really care for community dance is why I love my job.

We are excited to share our latest connection with you all.
⭐️ Boundless Bedrooms ⭐️
These care home sessions focus on visiting those who cannot leave their bedrooms, therefore often missing out on activities and socialising that occurs in the communal areas.

Using movement, music & circus skills, Anesta & Charlene have been working with activities coordinators in .uk Manley Court Care Home (one of the largest care home in Lewisham with a dementia unit) to connect, dance, learn new skills, laugh 🤭 together and be entertained all whilst singing along to their favourite songs 🎶

Boundless Bedrooms has been funded by Beckenham Theatre Trust (beckenhamtheatretrust.org.uk)
