💙 What does growth actually mean?

Is growth always about getting bigger? Or could it be about reaching more people, deepening our impact, doing things differently and making sure the work we do creates even more value?

We had a brilliant morning at Link UP yesterday with our amazing Board of Advisors member, Richard, who came in to lead a Growth Session with the team.

We spent the morning asking big questions, challenging our thinking, sharing ideas and talking about what growing our impact could look like for Link UP.

There was plenty of discussion, lots of ideas, a few lightbulb moments 💡 and, most importantly, lots of excitement about what could come next.

We’re not going to give away all the ideas just yet… 👀

But we’re already looking forward to taking some of those conversations forward and turning them into action.

Here’s to growing our impact, not just our size, and making an even bigger difference across London in 2027. 💙

💙 Sometimes, the most valuable thing is having the space to think differently.

For small charities, finding the time and resources to step back, tackle a challenge and think about what comes next can be difficult.

That’s where Corporate Skilled Volunteering can make a real difference.

Tottenham Foodbank has taken part in multiple Corporate Skilled Volunteering opportunities through Link UP London, working alongside corporate volunteers who have brought fresh perspectives, practical expertise and valuable skills to the table.

For Eniola Akinlabi, these experiences have provided more than just access to skills they might not otherwise have had. They’ve created the space, structure and confidence to look at challenges differently and think about what comes next.

Wandsworth Welcomes Refugees is a volunteer-led charity helping create a more welcoming Wandsworth for refugees and people seeking sanctuary.

They’re looking for a Skilled Volunteer with information management experience, particularly Google Workspace, to help bring their information together and create a clearer, easier way for their volunteer team to work.

You’ll help migrate resources, organise their new Google Workspace and develop simple systems for sharing information, making it easier for volunteers to find what they need and get involved.

💙 Sometimes, the best support is building the foundations for what comes next.

When Unofficial Guides was matched with Skilled Volunteer Orion through Link UP London, they were growing quickly and needed their financial systems to grow with them.

Orion brought his finance expertise to help the team strengthen their budgeting, financial planning and day-to-day processes, while giving them the confidence and knowledge to manage things as they grow.

And the impact went both ways.

For Unofficial Guides, the project created stronger financial foundations to support their next stage of growth.

For Orion, it was an opportunity to use his professional skills in a completely different environment, develop his leadership abilities and see the value of his expertise from a new perspective.

It’s a great reminder that Skilled Volunteering can create lasting value for both the organisation receiving the support and the person giving their skills.

We’re looking for a Skilled Volunteer with HR and governance policy expertise to support Kingston Mencap with reviewing and updating their existing policies and procedures.

You’ll help identify any gaps, particularly around safeguarding and safer recruitment, update or draft policies where needed, and provide advice to help the trustees build strong HR and governance foundations.

Kingston Mencap supports people with learning disabilities in the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames, bringing around 100 members together through weekly clubs to socialise, take part in activities and build friendships. 💙

Your expertise could help them prepare for their next phase of growth, while helping ensure they can continue providing a safe, supportive environment for the people who rely on their services.

💙 What happens when you offer your employees to chance to take the skills they use every day and apply somewhere completely different?

At our latest Link UP London Flash Consulting event, we brought senior colleagues from Amazon’s Strategy and Operations teams together with small London-based charities for two hours of fresh ideas and problem-solving around real challenges.

For the organisations involved, it was a chance to step back, ask questions and gain a fresh perspective from people with different experiences and expertise.

But the learning goes both ways.

Our corporate volunteers regularly tell us that Skilled Volunteering helps them develop skills they can take back into their day-to-day roles, while also helping them feel more connected to their colleagues and workplace. It’s much more than a feel-good experience.💙

And that’s something we’ve heard directly from volunteers at Amazon UK:
