๐ On National Foodbank Day and the International Day of Charity, weโre especially grateful for the incredible support we receive from across the community โ from schools and churches to corporate partners, individual givers, and our amazing volunteers. Together, you make our work possible. โจ
Last week, we were delighted to welcome Doron to our Peckham foodbank session. ๐ฑ During the visit, Doron got to see some of our wonderful volunteers in action. Back in 2015, after seeing the sharp rise in foodbank use, Doron and a small group of friends created Fight Against Hunger. Since then, theyโve been faithfully donating a monthly supermarket shop of essentials to Southwark Foodbankโalways mindful of the changing needs of the community. ๐โจ
Their dedication has meant that, since August 2020 alone, over 2,700kg of food and toiletries have reached people in crisis across Southwark โ the equivalent of around 250 emergency food parcels. ๐
This week was also full of activity: colleagues Kellie and Harry from OCS dropped off generous donations in the morning, and we were delighted to host four enthusiastic volunteers from Tesco Head Office โ Neil, James, Richard and Rob.
The Tesco team began by hearing from our Head of Food Services, who shared about the challenges faced in the community and the services provided by Pecan and Southwark Foodbank. Then, after a tour of the warehouse with, they got stuck into hands-on activities: packing food parcels (at record speed!) for the next food bank session, helping bring in a donation from Tesco Surrey Quays, loading up the van, and date-sorting milk. ๐ช
Today, on National Foodbank Day, we celebrate supporters like Doron and the Fight Against Hunger group โ alongside corporate volunteers like the Tesco Head Office team and our friends at OCS. Your compassion and ongoing support remind us that together, we can build a future where no one needs a foodbank. ๐๐
๐ Thank you for standing with us. Every donation. Every act of solidarity. Every voice for change.
