Southall Community Alliance

Southall Community Alliance Charity SCA is committed to strengthening and empowering the groups that we work with to play a fuller role in our community.

Southall Community Alliance (SCA) was established as an independent charitable organisation in 2000 to work with residents and community groups in the Southall area. We have a long history of responding to the needs of local voluntary sector organisations and currently run a Community Resource Centre, which provides support services to many local groups.

APNA Youth Schools Football Tournament - 12/6/26

Apna Youth arranged another fantastic schools football competition yesterday at Osterley Sports Club. This annual event was again arranged with real precision and a host of volunteers looked after the many young teams from primary schools.

SCA has supported the event and we came and arranged a stall to keep some of the young players entertained.

Well done to Aman and Monica Jaswal and the army of referees and volunteers who worked so hard to make the day a big success.

National Convention on Southall’s Resistance - 6/6/26

Villiers High School hosted a national convention on 6th June to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the death of Gurdip Singh Chaggar in 1976. Gurdip was 18 years old when he was killed in June 1976 and the convention remembered the tragedy but also the resistance which emerged from Southall to stand up to racism.

A packed agenda and impressive speaker list contributed to some really interesting debates about how we can collectively respond to the threat of the far right across the country.

The convention was arranged by Harsev Bains from the IWA(GB) and Suresh Grover from The Monitoring Group. Congratulations to them both and all volunteers who worked to make the event a success.

Especial thanks to the Chaggar family Mrs Sukhdev Reel who also kindly attended and provided their input and support.

Natalie and Mariam at Urban Garden

Our two newest staff members, Natalie Cherry and Mariam Sorour, both recently visited our urban garden to test out their green skills.

It was enjoyable for both to get some experience of working at the site and seeing the opportunity it provides to educate local residents about a greener environment.

Community day at Western Road - 30/5/26

Our May community day activity at our urban garden took place in glorious sunshine and was amazingly productive. We decided to focus upon planting and achieved a lot of our targets, both inside our Polytunnel and outside on raised beds.

Well done to all our volunteers and the hard-working Good Gym team led by Kash.

We aim to grow and then share the produce locally to tackle food hunger.

Healthy cooking classes at Dormers Wells - 20/526

SCA is committed to improving the health of our communities. We know that certain health conditions disproportionately affect residents in Southall and we support activities which raise awareness and build capacity to respond to these health challenges.

We have recently helped to arrange some healthy cooking classes in the Dormers Wells area and some have incorporated the use of slow cookers to save energy whilst cooking.

Community forum and data centres - 28/5/26

Our May community forum meeting had a fascinating presentation about data centres and their local impacts. Owen Espley from GAP shared valuable information about data centres and how they have worrying local impacts on water and energy consumption.

The meeting also had a short presentation by Inspector Leigh Ballard about local policing measures.

Community forum meetings continue to provide an opportunity for local residents and groups to engage on the issues affecting our communities.

Community picnic at Southall Park - 26/5/26

As part of the Caretakers Cottage project Marta from SCA and colleagues from MIND arranged a picnic for families at Southall Park on 26th May. The very sunny conditions meant the families arranged their picnic under the welcome shade of some trees and the picnic was enjoyed by all.

Well done to Marta for all her work in making this outdoor event possible.

New Mayor of Ealing

Congratulations to Cllr Faduma Mohamed as she was inaugurated as the first female Somali Mayor of Ealing. Cllr Faduma represents Southall West Ward and it is inspirational that a woman from Southall has now been selected as the mayor for the borough. The Mayors consort is her father. our very own Ahmed Mohamed.
