“Prejudice of any kind
implies that you are identified
with the thinking mind.
It means you don’t see
the other human being anymore,
but only your own concept
of that human being.
To reduce the aliveness
of another human being
to a concept
is already
a form of violence.”
— Eckhart Tolle
We often treat one another
through the lens of the mind.
There lies a filter of prejudice,
viewing others through “software”
pre-installed with judgments:
“He is a success,”
“She is a rebel,”
“He is weak”…
When we believe
that what we think about a person
is the absolute truth,
we lose our connection
to reality.
We reduce
a magnificent life
into a dry,
narrow definition.
In truth,
at that moment,
we are merely communicating
with our own shadow-
our concept of them-
rather than
their true self.
This is a form of violence:
By turning someone
into a “concept,”
we find it easy
to despise,
hate,
or harm them-
because we can no longer feel
their breath
or their pain.
