Putting a smile on the faces of colleagues ahead of her Royal Parks Half Marathon run, Eleanor Woodley served up tasty treats to haematology colleagues in GWB and T16N, in her bake sale! Eleanor is Team Lead Occupational Therapist Haematology at UCLH and is running as part of on Sunday 11th October through London's Royal Parks to raise funds for HCC! A huge thank you to Eleanor and her OT colleagues (who got their Bake On to support Eleanor) raising £335 to start her fundraising! Good luck with training, Eleanor! Professor Scarlett McNally OBE at The British Transplant Games!

The British Transplant Games were held in Sheffield 6th to 9th August and Professor Scarlett McNally took part in four events, (5km cycle, 10km cycle, 3km power walk, 200m run) gaining a medal in each event and raising over £400 for HCC in the process!

Scarlett was taking part to encourage people to be more active and said ‘I had a Stem Cell Transplant in 2020. I’m an NHS surgeon and I write in the BMJ. I’ve written a lot about “Exercise the Miracle Cure”. I want to highlight the importance of exercise and community to improve health, especially for people with medical conditions and for older people. I’ve had amazing life-saving treatment at UCLH that is on-going. I’ve had Myeloma (cancer of the plasma cells in the bone marrow) and cardiac amyloidosis since 2018. I’ve had chemotherapy, an autologous stem cell transplant, two hip replacements, some heart treatment and immunotherapy. I know that I’m alive (and working part-time) because of recent research and awesome excellent NHS treatment.’

Scarlett is planning to write a piece about the games for the BMJ and said about the experience ‘It was amazing to hear people's stories and to sense the energy about getting more donors and from people volunteering.’

London Bridgathon 2026

Sunday 6th September

This Sunday is three weeks to our largest, flagship event - walking along the Thames - and we can't wait to welcome you all!

The route remains incredibly iconic and there's always new things to see - including the new Tyburn Quay on the north bank of the Thames.

It's an eight mile walk but everyone walks the distance they are comfortable with as there are lots of tempting spots to stop and take in the view over a coffee or lunch!

Join us this year and be part of the inclusive HCC haematology community and raise funds to support patients, families and staff UCLH - University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust!

The Inaugural DL Games!

Congratulations and a very BIG thank you to Destiny Layokun, who organised the first ever DL Games! The games were held at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in East London on the 1st August and were a huge success, raising over £3,700 for HCC!

Destiny says ‘The care, love and support the Haematology department and The UCH Cancer Centre showed me, allowed my chemotherapy and treatment journey to run smoothly. In their care, and by God’s grace, I rang the bell on Thursday 14th of May 2026. My journey of recovery has reshaped my perspective and has allowed me to grow stronger spiritually, physically and mentally.’

Wishing Professor Scarlett McNally OBE very good luck for the British Transplant Games which start tomorrow in Sheffield and finish on Sunday 9th! Scarlett is running 200m, walking 3km, and cycling in two events, 10.5km and 3.5km.

Scarlett says 'I had a Stem Cell Transplant in 2020. I’m an NHS surgeon and I write in the BMJ. I’ve written a lot about “Exercise the Miracle Cure”. I want to highlight the importance of exercise and community to improve health, especially for people with medical conditions and for older people.

For the British Transplant Games, I’m part of the Royal Free hospital team, which does transplants, but also research into amyloidosis (build-up of abnormal protein).
