The other week, as part of Volunteers' Week, we celebrated the people who make Quo Vadis Trust what it is: Our volunteers!

Our Volunteer Celebration Day, themed 'Champion Volunteerism', was an afternoon of connection, recognition, and thanks, complete with a Volunteer Recognition Ceremony, a delicious lunch cooked and served by volunteers, and plenty of laughter along the way.

One client told us the day "felt like old times," a simple but powerful reminder of what community means.

To every volunteer who gives their time, energy, and compassion: thank you.

We are so proud to share this heartfelt testimonial from Anita*, whose brother Daniel* has been a resident at our Elmwood Lodge Care Home for the past three years 💚

Anita wrote to Care Home Manager, Mandy, to say:

"Over the past three years, I have seen a remarkable improvement in Daniel's health and overall wellbeing. The effort your team has put into improving his diet has made a significant difference, even helping to better manage his diabetes and reduce his need for medication. Beyond his physical health, it is clear that Daniel is much more settled, calm, and happy."

Anita also praised the regular communication she receives as Daniel's next of kin, and the activities and outings the team organise - including weekly events and monthly trips to the seaside - which she described as bringing "so much joy" to Daniel and all the residents.

She concluded: "You and your staff are deeply caring, kind, and committed individuals who always place the wellbeing of residents at the heart of everything you do. You truly make a positive impact every day."

Mandy and the Elmwood Lodge team - thank you for being exactly who you are

We are proud to share the story of one of our residents - known here as Lola - who joined our Independent Scheme in August 2024 and, within just a few months, had become a volunteer helping to plan and run group activities for fellow residents.

Lola came to Quo Vadis Trust looking for stability. What she found, in her own words, was "better than expected." She now volunteers twice a week, researching and preparing activities, running coffee and art sessions, and supporting other residents.
When we asked what volunteering means to her, she said this:

"It gives me a sense of purpose. I take on responsibilities, which I think is good. It's not like having a paid job, but it's giving me the skills to get to that stage. Personally, it makes me feel proud of myself."

And on what she has noticed in herself since starting: "I feel more satisfied. I feel like my weeks are more productive. I think it's helped me be more confident. I have a more positive outlook on life."

At QVT, we believe that recovery and independence are built in small, meaningful steps - and that the right home, the right support, and the right opportunities can help people grow in ways that surprise even themselves. Lola is proof of exactly that.

We love receiving messages like this one 💚

Sophie* has been a resident at our Hatherley Lodge Care Home since July 2024, and her stepparent recently took the time to write to us about the care she receives there. We're sharing it - with their kind permission - because Gemma and the team deserve to have this recognised.

"Deputy Manager, Gemma Cowan, provides a safe and secure environment for Sophie to reside in. Gemma carries out her duties in a very professional but friendly manner. Gemma and her staff are all part of an empathic and caring team where all of Sophie's needs are met. Their kindness and understanding is much appreciated."

At QVT, we know that the people behind the care make all the difference - and moments like this remind us just how true that is.

Well done, Gemma and the Hatherley Lodge team!

Last Friday we held our second Bikeathon - and it was a wonderful day! 🚴💚

Colleagues cycled, entered the raffle and tried their luck at guessing the sweets in the jar, all in aid of the QVT Benevolent Fund.

The Benevolent Fund is there for our team members when life gets difficult - providing financial and practical help to those facing hardship due to illness, caring responsibilities, mental health challenges or other tough circumstances. Through donations, we can offer grants and real financial assistance to the people who need it.

It is one of the ways QVT shows that the care and compassion we bring to our work extends to our own team too.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined in, donated and made the day such a success. We are already looking forward to the next one!

This week marks Carer's Week 2026 (8-14 June) - the UK's annual campaign to recognise and support unpaid carers. This year's theme is "Building Carer Friendly Communities," and it's one that resonates deeply with the work we do at Quo Vadis Trust.

Many of the adults we support have unpaid carers in their lives - people who show up every day, often without formal recognition or adequate support of their own. Carer's Week is a reminder that building truly inclusive, recovery-focused communities means supporting not just the people in our care, but the people who care for them too.

Across the UK, unpaid carers make an enormous contribution - to their families, to communities, and to the health and social care system. They deserve recognition, resources, and communities that actively stand behind them.

At QVT, we're committed to being part of that kind of community - one where carers feel valued, understood, and never invisible.

To every carer connected to our community - thank you 🫶

We have some wonderful news to share! 🌟

Hatherley Lodge has been rated 'Good' in ALL areas following a recent CQC inspection. This is a fantastic achievement and a true reflection of the incredible team there, who show up every day with skill, compassion, and commitment.

A special mention to Mandy and Gemma, whose dedication and passion really shone through during the inspection. We are so proud of you both, and of every single person on the team.

Well done, Hatherley Lodge! 💚

Hatherley Lodge has been rated 'Good' in all areas by the Care Quality Commission following a thorough inspection in spring 2026. A proud moment for our team and the people we support.

What a wonderful session we had this week! 🍚

One of our fantastic QVT volunteers - who just happens to be a professional chef - ran a cooking workshop with our clients, guiding them through making pork and egg fried rice completely from scratch. Think freshly sliced spring onions, oyster mushrooms, beaten eggs, and a proper soy sauce blend sizzling in the wok!

Cooking together is one of those activities that brings people out of themselves. It gets people talking, laughing, and feeling genuinely capable - and that matters hugely for the people we support.

A massive thank you to our volunteer chef for giving their time, skills, and energy to our community. This is exactly the kind of moment that makes QVT what it is 💚
