Gender and Adolescence: Global Evidence

Gender and Adolescence: Global Evidence Nine-year longitudinal research study following 20,000 adolescents in the Global South to understand what works to enhance adolescent capabilities.

GAGE aims to understand what programmes are most effective in transforming adolescent girls’ lives. GAGE addresses key questions around programme effectiveness, focusing on the timing, intensity and duration of programmes and their ultimate legacy effects, including the extent to which they reshape gendered social norms. GAGE will generate unique cross-country data following girls, along with thei

r families and peers (including boys), from early adolescence through to adulthood. Research findings will contribute to the global understanding on programme impacts and what is needed to meet the ambitious targets of Sustainable Development Goal 5, "achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls".

On World Refugee Day, we are reminded of the urgency of protecting the right to safety and dignity for millions of people forced to flee, and of the responsibility to address the long-term realities of displacement.

In Lebanon, ongoing political and economic instability has created a prolonged crisis context in which adolescents and young people from refugee and host communities are navigating disrupted transitions to adulthood, with constrained access to education, livelihoods, and civic participation.

Evidence from highlights how these intersecting crises continue to reshape young people’s lives, while also underscoring their resilience and efforts to assert voice and agency in challenging environments.
