On Friday, 13 March 2026, The Guardian shared the story of how nature-based therapy is helping people recover from mental illness, including the work we are doing at Dose of Nature.

This is not about replacing existing care. It is about strengthening mental health pathways with evidence-based, clinically-led approaches that improve outcomes and reduce pressure on services.

Our recent randomised controlled trial with the London School of Economics shows that structured nature prescriptions can deliver significant improvements in anxiety and depression outcomes, and at lower cost than traditional interventions alone.

We believe the future of mental healthcare will be integrated, preventative and community-based.

Nature has a vital role to play.

We are grateful to the participants, clinicians, partners and funders who are helping make this possible.

Last week, Dose of Nature joined BBC Radio 4’s The World Tonight to talk about the science behind nature and mental health, and we were also featured on the BBC World Service.

Dr Alison Greenwood shared how:
• self-repeating fractal patterns in nature increase alpha waves in our brains, an indicator of a wakefully relaxed state
• the ā€œsmall selfā€ theory can bring reassurance and perspective
• the sound of water and other natural soundscapes support relaxation and attention
• and that ultimately, we are nature, and not separate from it

It’s encouraging to see more space being made for conversations around preventative, nature-based mental health support.

Friday Snapshot by Deborah Blud, Lead Administrator - Dose of Nature

There is something rather powerful about a change of scenery, and I’ve had one myself this week. Not a fabulous holiday or an exciting escape, but a visit to a very familiar place - just one I haven’t been to for a couple of months. A fresh view out of the window and windy walks along new paths have been strangely restorative. In fact, I would go as far as to say that I feel thoroughly refreshed by the experience!

We don’t always need something dramatic in our lives to make an impact that can be felt. The benefit comes from the difference. Exploring a park we haven’t been to in a while, sitting under a different tree, walking in the opposite direction along the river, or simply turning down a street we haven’t explored before can provide us with enough novelty to spark something special inside us.

Try it. There’s nothing to lose, and it could be just what you need...

Winter is already here — and for many of us, this season can feel heavy.

In a recent collaboration with Children United, Dr Georgina Gould from Dose of Nature shares how spending time in nature can gently support our mental health through the winter months.

Even when it’s cold, getting outdoors can help lift mood, regulate sleep and bring a sense of calm and perspective. It doesn’t have to be a long walk — a few mindful minutes outside, some fresh air or noticing the winter sky can all make a difference.

Nature is there for us in every season šŸ’š

🌿🐦 Big Garden Birdwatch 2026 at Pensford Field

A grey start didn’t stop the birds — or our community!

On 23 Jan, we joined the RSPB’s and spotted several species, including 3 robins, 6 chaffinches, a coal tit, and a lively flurry of blue and great t**s around the field. 🌳🐦

Each sighting contributes to monitoring bird populations across the UK — a small act with real conservation impact.

Thank you to everyone who joined us! šŸ’š

Big news at Dose of Nature šŸ›‹ļøšŸ’š

These couches aren’t just new furniture – they mark the start of an exciting new chapter for us. A place for conversations, connection, ideas, laughter, and plenty of cups of tea ā˜•šŸŒæ

Feeling grateful to celebrate this moment with our DoN family.

Here’s to growing together, one cosy corner at a time.

New research published!

We’re excited to share that Dose of Nature’s Young People’s Programme has been featured in a newly published academic study in the Journal of Ecopsychology.

The research explored how nature-based support helps young people’s mental wellbeing — and found three key connections at the heart of the programme:
✨ Connection to self
šŸ¤ Connection to others
šŸŒ Connection to nature

Young people spoke about feeling calmer, more confident, more connected and more resilient through their time in nature.

We’re proud to see evidence growing for the power of nature, relationships and community in supporting mental health šŸ’š

Huge thanks to the researchers, Constanza Barbieri, Lucy Oldfield, Hilary Norman and young people who made this study possible — and to Dr Georgina Gould, who supervised and supported the project.

You can read more about the research and find a pdf on the paper on our website - see link to website in bio.

Light in the darkness, laughter in the cold, and nature quietly holding space.

Evenings like this remind us how powerful it can be to step outside, slow down, and simply be.

As we journey through 2026, may we create more moments that nurture our wellbeing — where nature, connection and calm come together.

🌿 Nature in Schools = Real Change 🌿

We recently ran a pilot wellbeing programme at Christ’s School, Richmond, bringing the power of nature into the classroom for 180 Year 8 students.

Alongside this, a small group of students took part in our six-week Nature for Wellbeing course, delivered by our psychologists — and the results were incredible:

✨ 85% showed improved mental wellbeing
🌱 83% felt more connected to nature
šŸŒ 100% spent more time outdoors

We’re so proud of these young people and excited about what this means for the future of nature-based mental health support in schools.

What an inspiring day at the 2025 Chimo Trust Summit!

We were proud to join 16 other brilliant charities, researchers, funders and sector leaders for a day of connection, innovation and learning centred on Enhanced Social Prescriptions and improving mental health outcomes for young people.

Our very own Dr Alison Greenwood, was invited to be one of the event’s speakers and to present Dose of Nature’s ā€˜Expansion Experience’.

We also heard from keynote speaker Professor Lord Richard Layard, alongside many other brilliant voices.

Thank you to Gavin White and the amazing team at for bringing everyone together and for your continued support of our work.
