A mind which is already full of ideas has no space to understand. You are already filled. For you to pour anything into a vessel, it has to be empty first. You canโ€™t pour something if it is already full. Nothing is going to go in. Itโ€™s all going to overflow.

Everybody searches for happiness. This is because there is an innate built-in understanding in the human mind or human consciousness that there is this joy somewhere hiding and we need to grasp it. We think it can be grasped by acquiring and gathering when actually it is acquired when one let goes and relaxes. Not give up.

Did the Upanishads, in some way, express a thousand years ago what Krishnamurti says?
โ€ฆโ€ฆ
I postulate that perhaps Krishnamurti discovered what the upanishads declare, all by himself, in a similar way that the rishis of old came upon the โ€˜Truthโ€™, by themselves. The upanishads did not exist before them, and they were the ones who formulated the ideas after realizing them without reference to a pre-existing authority.
โ€ฆโ€ฆ
When Krishnamurti talked of the strenuous efforts it took to make his works intelligible and understandable, he frequently used expressions like
'Oh God! What a generation!' or 'Sir, you have heard the speaker for so many years, why are you here?", etc. This reflects the ancient rishis difficulty in conveying in words:
'Na Vidmo Na Vijanimo, Atthai Tat Ambisyaat, meaning 'I do not understand how I can teach this to you?

In the last line of the shloka, it is other than the known, yet it is not unknown either; one has to only read through one of the collections of Krishnamurti's thoughts called โ€˜Freedom from the Knownโ€™. He says that to be free of all conditioning and understand the absolute freedom from all bo***ge, one has to be free from all that one knows. The ultimate cannot be anything that the mind knows because the mind, being thought, is limited and cannot fathom the unlimited. That he is trying hard to convey this is proof that he believes that the unlimited cannot be known by the normal thought process.

The mind is a mischief-maker, not the world. When you let go of all negativity, all that remains is the positive essence of your consciousness. When you discover that inner satisfaction and bliss, which are your true essence, you will find that the world also puts everything into order. There is no need to worry about it.

A quiet, calm mind is like a runway for an aeroplane to take off. Any inspiration or anything new will arise when the mind is quiet and calm, when it is almost equivalent to shunya. Thatโ€™s when it renews itself and brings out new ideas, new thoughts, creative instincts, and so on.

Beyond All Seeking | Sri M on Truth, Guidance and Inner Steadiness

What if the mind itself is the only thing standing between you and what you seek?

In this conversation, Sri M turns the spiritual search in one direction. Inward.

The mind is in fragments, pulled by identity, belief and desire. Temples, rituals and gurus can help, but when the crutch becomes the destination, the search goes in circles. The breath, he points out, is the most universal doorway into stillness, one that belongs to no religion or tradition.

Drawing from the Rigveda, Patanjali, Kabirdas and the Sermon on the Mount, Sri M reminds us that truth was never the property of any one tradition.

"The settling mind is the tarmac to take off for something more."

Look inward. And begin now.
