Africa has the youngest population by continent - 70% of Sub-Saharan Africa are under 30, according to the World Bank, but most (65%) of these children have no access to secondary education. There is so much potential and yet so much need for quality education to transform these young lives.

In Tanzania, we educate nearly 2,000 children and young women in our schools, helping them to learn skills and develop their potential to have a better future where they can live free from poverty.

You can help the young people of Africa achieve their potential and find a better future through education by donating today.

The sewing machine revolutionised the textile industry over 150 years ago. Today, it continues to transform lives for children born into extreme poverty, giving them practical skills to find lasting employment to help lift themselves out of poverty.

Sewing skills are some of the basic vocational skills every child - boys and girls - learns with us from day one. By the time they leave school, they are skilled and ready to enter a job, working their way into a brighter future.

Play is an essential part of a child’s education. Playing shows that a child feels safe and can relax and express themselves through games, sports, and physical activities.

“Play” is one of the four foundational pillars of life in the Sisters of Mary schools. When children play, they learn, grow, and experience joy that every child should have access to.

Happy World Environment Day! At World Villages for Children, caring for our planet goes hand-in-hand with caring for our children.

Installing solar panels at our schools not only lowers our carbon footprint, it also saves us money when fuel costs are rising everywhere. Working together with the Sisters of Mary it is our priority to ensure that thousands of boys and girls have access to reliable, sustainable energy to allow them to grow, study, and build a life free from poverty, whilst protecting the planet.

Clean energy powers their classrooms today, so they can build a cleaner, brighter world tomorrow.

This week we are celebrating the wonderful volunteers who support our work and help us raise the profile of the charity and the education programmes of the Sisters of Mary. Today we shine a light on the fantastic endeavours of our Volunteer Ambassador, Enrique. Not only is Enrique a generous supporter and advocate for World Villages for Children but he is also one of our most prolific and adventurous fundraisers.

Enrique has swum the English Channel (twice!), climbed Mount Iztaccihuatl in Mexico, swum Acapulco Bay and is currently in training to swim the Strait of Gibraltar! We thank you so much Enrique for everything you do for us and for the children in our care!

This volunteers' week we recognise and celebrate the enormous contribution of our volunteer ambassadors who do so much to support the work of our charity. Today we shine a light on our fantastic volunteer Geoffrey who shares his time and extensive skills so generously. From helping us to raise the profile of our charity with new audiences around the country, to teaching our children in Tanzania how to play cricket. His energy and dedication inspire us and we are so grateful to him for his unwavering support and commitment.

Thank you Geoffrey for all of your hard work!

Africa Day celebrates the unity, diversity and spirit of Africa. In our education programmes in Tanzania, there is much to celebrate today.

This year our first group of girls graduated from Kisarawe Girlstown! And there are nearly 2,000 children and young women in education with us across 4 programmes. Construction of our new classroom building in Dodoma Boystown is nearly complete, waiting to be filled with equipment and new boys in January next year.

We have a lot of work ahead to ensure that more children have equitable access to quality education in Tanzania but with your help, we will be able to ensure a good future for many more children. There are many challenges to come, but thanks to you we have so much hope for the children of Africa.

Happy !

It was a real joy to have Sr. Elena and Sr. Margarita with us in London to meet with our supporters and give them an update about their work. It was a chance to show our friends the real impact of their kindness.

We were so pleased to have Brasilia Girlstown graduate Sthefanny join us and share her experience of her time at the Sisters of Mary school in Brazil. Thank you to everyone who came to see the Sisters and for your generous support for the children in their care.
