AdviceUK

AdviceUK This is the page for AdviceUK, the UK’s largest support network for free, independent advice centres.

AdviceUK is the UK’s largest support network for free, independent advice centres. AdviceUK was formed in 1979 as the Federation of Independent Advice Centres (FIAC). In 1979, our founders shared a conviction that people’s rights have no meaning without the means to enforce them. They saw their own work – of providing free information and advice – as a vital contribution to helping individuals and

communities in need to enforce their rights and improve their quality of life. We hold the same conviction today, and whilst the social welfare landscape has radically altered in the past 30 years our commitment to the provision of free, independent advice has not changed.

Last week our team had the best time at the 💛

Emma, Abigail and Leyre were able to connect with member organisations and support fundraising efforts to ensure anyone who needs it can access free, independent legal advice.

While they have recovered from their 10km walk, the fundraising mission continues, with only 13% left to reach the £1M target.

This , we’re celebrating courage 💜

This year’s theme recognises the everyday courage of refugees and people seeking asylum to face unknown journeys, learn new languages and navigate unfamiliar systems.

Organisations like Lewisham Refugee and Migrant Network (LRMN) see this courage every day, and offer a helping hand by providing vital advice, preventing homelessness and supporting thousands of people to live with dignity and hope.

➡️Their work is a powerful reminder of what’s possible when communities come together with compassion and care.

As comes to a close, we’re celebrating one of our member organisations helping to build truly carer-friendly communities 💙.

Wandsworth Carers' Centre has been supporting unpaid carers in the London borough of Wandsworth since 1995, providing practical advice, emotional support and community-based services so carers don’t have to navigate caring alone.

Caring for a loved one can mean balancing work, finances, appointments and wellbeing, often over long periods of time. Hear from adviser Steven Hithersay about how Wandsworth Carers’ Centre ensures carers are recognised, informed and supported to stay healthy, connected, and able to continue living their own lives.

The National Audit Office is right: too many people do not know that support exists for debts on essential bills, or how to access it.

But support schemes only work if people know they exist.

Advice services help people access support schemes, challenge billing problems and manage debt, but demand is outstripping capacity.

Investment in advice services is an investment in prevention.
