We've made a series of very special clips about a very special person.

His name is Fred, and we are so excited for you to meet him. 🤝

To begin with, we'd love to tell a story of his background - a journey thousands of people with learning disabilities went on in the last century. It's a journey from living in a hospital for 30+ years to finding a real home at L'Arche Bognor Regis.

What is Gift Aid?!

In summer 2026, 12 people with and without learning disabilities from L'Arche Liverpool, L'Arche Manchester and L'Arche Preston visited northern France to see how they do L’Arche there. Then a month later, a similar group from L'Arche en France paid us a return visit.

We wanted to discover what community looked like in different countries and contexts, and what we could learn from each other.

From English breakfast and pub crawls to the use of Makaton, employment opportunities and creating connections beyond our communities - we've learnt that we are different but also very similar at the same time!

Looking after others well is not only about hard work, a job well done. It takes soulful presence - the demanding call to know and draw upon the deepest part of ourselves in relationship with others.

Following a recent L'Arche retreat for live-in assistants, Liska reflects on how entering that quiet inner space enabled her to connect more compassionately with herself and others.

She shares, "These few days gave me the opportunity to live slowly, without the busyness of my everyday life, without responsibilities and expectations of myself - I was just being me."
