"OUR NATIVE RED" - we love all squirrels, but it has to be said that red squirrels found in this country today are products of multiple attempt as reintroduction from Continental Europe - as genetic research shows.

GREY SQUIRRELS DO NOT KILL "THE NATIVE RED". The British sub-species of the red squirrel, sciurus vulgaris leucurus (they went white in summer) is, sadly, extinct anyway, from BEFORE grey squirrels were introduced. That was because of habitat loss and later hybridisation with red squirrels introduced from Europe.
