Nova New Opportunities

Welcome to a better world. Welcome to Nova. We are a small, diverse charity with a big reach and novel approach to social change. But we don’t stop there.

Since 1983, we have been offering grassroots support to our local community. We pride ourselves on the positive impact our learning programmes have had on people’s lives. Our mission is to challenge and expose structural inequality, because we believe the UK has the potential to grow into the most socially cohesive and inclusive society in the world. This vision is already alive; Nova is a microcosm of such a society. Our team – leadership, staff, volunteers and participants – is inclusive, dynamic and open-minded, and reflects the communities we work with.

Looking back on our Family Programme's busy summer holiday:

✨Family fun London Museum
🔸Flying high with Cambridge Gliding Centre
✨An arty lunch Mike's Table
🔸Admiring the animals London Zoo
✨Chillaxing on Brighton beach
🔸Play building Victoria and Albert Museum
✨Wonderlab Science Museum

These were just some of the highlights across 50 activities we had on offer, working with over 130 families over the holidays.

Thank you to all our amazing partners (including those not mentioned above) who helped make this yet another special summer for so many children and families, and to John Lyon’s Charity and The Julia Rausing Trust for their generous support. 🙏🙏

✨To the Young K and C Awards! ✨

For the second year in a row, Nova was proud to receive a Special Mention for Best Work Empowering Youth Voice. 🎉

From co-authoring research with institutional partners to designing and delivering projects that address issues that matter to them, we support young people in exploring some of the ways they can influence the world around them.

🎉One of our favourite events in the calendar! 🎉

It was a joyously packed room at Nova’s Achievement Awards earlier this month. We think achievements can be as personal and varied as the people we work with. What links them all is effort and commitment. We loved celebrating nominees of all ages from across our programmes, from learners and clients to volunteers.

It’s also a wonderful opportunity to hear directly from our nominees, with words spoken from the heart often bringing tears to more than one pair of eyes.

Well done to all the nominees, and thank you for your dedication! 👏👏

💚Our Community Artwork for Grenfell was moved from a record-breaking hot day in June to a very hot day in July 😅.
*
Thank you to all who took a moment to add their reflections on Grenfell and to contribute to our community map. From local parks and pubs to special walks, we loved the variety of places that hold meaning and value for people who live and work in the area.
*
It was wonderful to have Victoria and Ria from London Museum with us for the day. We also extend thanks to The Royal Parks for their donation of beautiful potted plants that now bring splashes of colour and calm to numerous homes in the area, as well as to Westway Trust for funding this event. 🙏💚

Today, 16th June, is the 10th anniversary of the late Jo Cox MP's murder during the febrile run-up to Brexit. Her belief that “we have more in common than that which divides us” is a message that needs to ring louder and more urgently than ever.
*
Our Great Get Together for Grenfell later this month is an opportunity for people to take a quiet moment and contribute to a community reflection artwork.
Join us.

📣 Help Keep Nova Going 📣

After 43 years of serving our community, Nova is facing closure.

Earlier this month, we urgently needed to raise £15,000 by mid-May to keep Nova’s services running while we pursued options to secure our future. We successfully met that initial target.

However, Nova is still at a critical point.

** We now need to raise a further £35,000 before the end of May and £50,000 in June to avoid permanent closure.**

For over four decades, Nova has supported tens of thousands of local people and families through classes, youth activities, community projects and vital advice for those facing poverty or homelessness.
Our services have never been more needed — but now they are at risk.

If Nova has ever mattered to you, or if you believe places like Nova should exist, please donate today. Any amount, no matter how small, will help.

Please also share this post and help us reach more people. 🧡🧡

✨ We’re excited to be part of Futures Fair 2026 ✨

Nova will be at the Futures Fair on Sunday 19 April (1–4pm) at Baseline Studios in North Kensington, W11 4AT, joining a range of organisations showcasing careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths (STEAM).

Come and visit our stall to learn more about what we do and get involved in some interactive activities we’ll be running on the day. It’s a great opportunity for young people, families and anyone curious about future careers to explore different pathways and meet people working across STEAM industries.
