Women for Women International - UK Women for Women International supports women in war-torn regions. We bring women together in a safe space to learn life, business, and vocational skills.

Since 1993, Women for Women International has helped over 500,000 marginalised women in countries affected by war and conflict. We directly work with women in 8 countries, offering support, tools, and access to life-changing skills to move from crisis and poverty to stability and economic self-sufficiency. Once enrolled, each woman receives a monthly stipend – a vital support that enables her to participate. Women increase their ability to earn an income with new skills that are in demand. They learn about their legal rights, and they become knowledgeable about health and nutrition. The result: stronger women, stronger families, and stronger communities. The ripple effect is profound.

Liberian peace activist Leymah Gbowee led a movement of women that helped bring an end to Liberia’s civil war. In 2011, she was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for her nonviolent work and her fight for women’s full participation in peacebuilding.

Her words point to something we still see far too often: women are among those most affected by conflict, yet too rarely included in the conversations about how to end it.

For Stephen Batali, joining our Men’s Engagement Programme in South Sudan changed the way he understood gender equality. Today, he works alongside other men and boys to challenge harmful norms and speak out against sexual violence.

Gloria Steinem understood that social change does not happen simply because people recognise that something is wrong. It happens when people organise, speak up and refuse to accept that it has to remain that way.

Across more than six decades, she wrote, reported, organised and challenged the structures that shaped women’s lives. She also understood the importance of making space for other voices — because movements are sustained not by one person, but by the people who carry the work forward.

In Gloria's words, “Feminism has never been about getting a job for one woman. It's about making life more fair for women everywhere. It's not about a piece of the existing pie; there are too many of us for that. It's about baking a new pie.” Let's follow her legacy and continue to build a new world — a world where all women get to choose her on path and has the oportunity to do so.
