“We want to be recognized as women. We want to be women. That is what we are.” ✊✨

As our week celebrations continue, we are moving from Zimbabwe to Kenya to amplify the vital voice of Lucy Nkatha, a 48-year-old activist from Meru County.

As a dedicated member of Women Challenged to Challenge Kenya , Lucy is on a mission to shift how society views women and girls with disabilities. True inclusion means acknowledging that an entire community shouldn’t be defined by an individual’s mistakes, while the good work they do daily goes unnoticed.

Lucy’s vision is clear and bold: she wants to see women and girls with disabilities aggressively chasing down opportunities, because waiting for them to arrive isn’t an option.

📢 Womankind will be attending the Global Partnerships Conference on the 19th and 20th of May represented by Alexandra Webber.

We are bringing a critical question to the table: How do feminist organisations navigate severe funding cuts and a rising anti-rights backlash?

The answer lies in rewriting the rules of collaboration.

In our latest piece, we explore the power of non-traditional partnerships. Moving beyond conventional funding models allows us to build resilient coalitions, center grassroots movements, and keep the fight for gender justice moving forward, even in the toughest political climates.

We look forward to discussing these vital strategies with global allies this week.

Funding is shrinking, but need isn’t. With sweeping cuts to aid budgets globally and an aggressively well-funded anti-gender movement on the rise, many NGOs are moving towards engaging the private sector more in advocacy. But how can we do this effectively whilst staying true to our values?

“We’re a little too passive and a little too grateful to have tech companies on our continent and that reflects in how we engage with them.” -

In our latest International Women’s Day webinar, we discussed the urgent need for sustained advocacy and strong policy frameworks to hold tech companies accountable. Tech companies are built for profit, not for our advancement. To ensure they stop discriminating against women and those from the African continent, we must be more stringent and strategic in building out systems and structures that actively hold them accountable.

It’s time to move beyond passivity and demand a

We continue to call for a total reboot of our online systems. Technology-Facilitated Gender-Based Violence i’ve lost( ) is no longer just about text-based harassment; it has evolved into a sophisticated threat involving AI-generated deepfakes, gendered surveillance, and virtual stalking.

This video highlights why we must move from reactive moderation . We are bringing together experts, activists, and tech professionals to demand an online world that is safe for women, girls, and human rights defenders by default.

The digital world is not a level playing field. ⚠️

Our latest report, “Unsafe By Design,” reveals the staggering reality of Technology-Facilitated Gender-Based Violence (TFGBV). From politics to daily life, women, particularly Black women and women of colour, are facing a relentless wave of online abuse that our legal systems are failing to address.

The Facts:

📉 Black women are 84% more likely to be targeted in online attacks than white women.

🇪🇺 In the EU alone, TFGBV costs up to €89 billion annually in lost productivity and health costs.

🗳️ Female parliamentarians in Europe experience 80% more attacks than their male counterparts.

Online violence is real violence. It’s time our laws caught up.

Stop blaming survivors. Start fixing the system. 🛠️💜

For too long, the "traditional" response to online violence has been to tell women and gender-diverse people to hide, change their passwords, or delete their accounts. This places the entire burden of safety on the individual, rather than the systems that are failing them.

This and onwards, we are flipping the script. 🔄

We believe the digital world is "Unsafe by Design". True safety requires structural change, holding tech platforms accountable for moderation failures and building digital spaces rooted in solidarity, justice, and power.

It’s time to move from "individual responsibility" to collective action.

5 Ways to Combat Tech-Facilitated GBV 🛡️💜

The digital world is currently "Unsafe by Design," but we have the tools to change it. Our latest report identifies critical patterns of digital harm and provides a roadmap for a feminist technological revolution that centers our safety.

How do we combat TfGBV?

🎯 Hold platforms accountable: Demand an end to content moderation failures.
🎯 Survivor-centered justice: Push for judicial and police training that stops re-traumatisation.
🎯 Support the frontlines: Increase funding for organisations tackling digital violence.
🎯 Champion Safety by Design: Build tech that prioritises diverse women’s experiences.
🎯 Invest in literacy: Scale up digital security and AI training for grassroots communities.

It’s time to move from awareness to collective advocacy.
