A great loss to the ethic of technology community. Jim was early to recognise how computer ethics pose new challenges, and head of his time. Jim's pioneering contributions to the philosophy of technology, the philosophy of artificial intelligence, and to the philosophical assessment of Singularity Hypotheses have made a great impact to subjects which today take up headlines.

Jim was a great teacher, a good friend, and a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, and a man who everyone loved. We mourn his loss.
