LYTL League Update!
Thank-you as always for your support for London Youth Track League, it has been a real pleasure to once again see so much fantastic racing, and I’m looking forward to all the rounds coming up in the New Year! Results from the first three rounds are available on the league website - https://www.lytl.co.uk/results
We’ve put together this update just to let you know some key information – as always, if you have any questions, please get in touch!
*Round 4 - 21st December at 3pm*
Due to a recent change in the British Cycling regulations, events in December are no longer allowed to count for Youth rankings – as such our event next Saturday can no longer give BC points. I’m really sorry that this was missed earlier and that this change comes so late!
We will still have racing, but instead of points we’ll have prizes for each race, and league points as well on offer; and the round will still be open to non-league members to come and have a last track race of 2024! For those who already entered, you’ll see that the entries have changed back to our normal groups, we’ll move you to your usual group in the next couple of days.
*League Groups*
Whilst the league has a similar number of riders to previous years, you’ll have noticed that the split between groups is more unbalanced this year. A proposal has been made to make some changes – and we’d love to know what you think; or if you have any other ideas, please share them!
To move from four groups, down to three; all of which are open groups based on ability; with no separate Women’s/Girl’s group. Riders currently in that group would choose which group to move to. This would give us three larger groups, making it more viable to run a wider variety of racing, including some longer races for Group 2.
To make Group 3 a ‘Go Race’ group, led by a track coach alongside the commissaires. This should mean that riders can enter without the YTL Accreditation, although we’d still ask for them to have indoor track experience. Riders could then gain their YTL accreditation whilst riding at the league. We don’t believe this would change the racing format for Group 3, but might make it easier for riders to begin indoor track racing!
*2025 Events*
We’re really pleased to have once again been chosen by British Cycling to host two National events on the track in 2025. I’m looking forward to seeing loads of our league members racing (and winning!) at these events which will be held at Lee Valley:
Round 1 of the National Sprint Futures Series, a new three round series for Youth and Junior Sprinters – April 6th.
The National Youth Omnium Championships – for the third time we’ll be hosting the final round of the Youth Omnium series and crowning four national champions – this year on July 12th.
*Chilly City Crits*
Finally, we’ve once again teamed up with BC Eastern Region and the London City Academy to help bring a series of early season youth crit races to Lee Valley. Racing will be held for Youth E,D,C,B,A as well as an U18 Go Race series for young riders (13-18) who are new to cycling and haven’t raced before.
The events can be found on the BC website now, and entries will open on Jan 1st 2025!
