A blessed day by the sea in Hastings! ☀️🌊

Today our parish enjoyed a wonderful day trip to Hastings, where we received a very warm welcome from Fr Hierotheos, his Presvytera and the whole parish community, who kindly offered us refreshments after our long journey.

We then gathered together for the Paraklisis, the Supplicatory Canon to the Mother of God, before spending the afternoon by the sea, enjoying the fresh air, the sights of Hastings and, above all, each other’s company.

A beautiful day of prayer, fellowship and rest during these days of August, as we prepare to celebrate the great Feast of the Dormition of the Mother of God.

Our heartfelt thanks to Fr Hierotheos, his Presvytera and the lovely community in Hastings for their wonderfully warm welcome and generous hospitality. We are truly grateful for the kindness shown to us and for making us feel so at home.

We give thanks to God for a safe journey and a joyful day together. May the Most Holy Theotokos continue to protect and guide us all. 🙏

A very happy 50th birthday to our dear Fr Nikodemos! 🎂

Today we had the pleasure of surprising Father with a birthday cake after the Divine Liturgy.

We wish him many happy and blessed years, with good health, strength and joy as he continues his ministry among us.

Χρόνια πολλά και ευλογημένα, πάτερ Νικόδημε!
Ο Θεός να σας χαρίζει υγεία, δύναμη και κάθε ευλογία.
Εἰς πολλὰ ἔτη! ☦️

Our hall is coming along, thanks to our wonderful volunteers helping the builders out.
Hopefully, it will be a marvellous place to hire in the future and mean that we can celebrate many more christenings and weddings at St Demetrios.
If you would like to contribute or hire the hall please contact the Church office..

This evening we gathered again to pray the Paraklesis (Supplicatory Canon) to the Most Holy Theotokos, seeking her prayers and intercessions during the Dormition Fast.

Everyone is warmly welcome to join us for the rest of this week's services:

Wednesday 5 August – 6.00 pm: Great Vespers for the Feast of the Transfiguration of Our Lord (please note the later time instead of Paraklesis).

Thursday 6 August – Divine Liturgy for the Feast of the Transfiguration of Our Lord.

Friday 7 August – Paraklesis resumes at 5.00 pm.

We hope you will be able to join us for these beautiful services.

Yesterday, we celebrated the feast of St Photini (Fotou) of Karpasia, together with the Feast of the Translation of the Relics of the Holy Protomartyr and Archdeacon Stephen.

St Photini of Karpasia is one of Cyprus' beloved local saints. According to tradition, she was born in Rizokarpaso and devoted her life to prayer, asceticism and service to Christ as a virgin ascetic. She lived in a cave in the Karpasia region, where she became known for her holiness and, by God's grace, for miracles of healing. Her relics were later discovered with the inscription, "Photini, the Virgin Bride of Christ."

For generations, the faithful of Karpasia have sought her prayers and intercessions, and she remains a much-loved saint, especially among displaced Cypriots who continue to honour her despite the occupation of her homeland.

May the prayers of St Photini of Karpasia and St Stephen the Protomartyr strengthen and guide us all.
