The Gifty Foundation The Gifty Foundation's goal is to help young people in Ghana learn more about Sickle Cell, how it affects them, and then to make informed choices.

We are a group of people whose lives have been touched by Sickle Cell, directly or indirectly through the life of our friend Gifty. When two people carrying the sickle-cell trait have a baby there is a 1 in 4 chance that the child will have full-blown Sickle Cell Disease. 25% of the Ghanaian population carry the trait, yet very few even know what Sickle Cell is. In countries where it’s most common

in sub-Saharan Africa, those that have the condition usually suffer from a lifetime of painful and damaging health problems. This lack of knowledge can't continue when the scale of the problem is so enormous.
