Last night, we attended the event "BH Professionals Networking and Connections in the UK" at the Embassy of Bosnia and Herzegovina in London. As in previous years, it was a pleasure to meet and connect with successful professionals from London and across the UK. https://www.bhfuturesfoundation.org/

The Embassy was filled with intellectual energy, experience, and inspiration, while the event was further enriched by a remarkable exhibition of works by Bosnian-Herzegovinian artists.

The gathering was officially opened by the Ambassador of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the United Kingdom, H.E. Osman Topčagić, and Željko Kiauta, who presented the new sports software application SportiW https://sportiw.com/en The app is simple, practical, and designed to support athletes and sports managers from Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Representing Futures Foundation, Martina Egedušević, a Board Member and Research Associate on the SENSUM Project, introduced the Foundation's organisational structure and explained how individuals can become involved in its activities.

Lilijan Sulejmanović, a management and business strategy consultant, co-founder of Osvit.co, and graduate of Oxford and Harvard, shared valuable insights. She emphasised that openness to independent thinking, exploring one's potential, and embracing change can lead to entirely new directions in business and professional development. She also highlighted the importance of maintaining a sense of belonging and preserving connections with Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Professor Neven Anđelić delivered an emotional address, stating:
"Tonight, 130 million people around the world will not sleep in their own homes. It is unrealistic to expect everyone to return, but they can stay connected. Progress in Bosnia and Herzegovina is visible and undeniable. It could have been greater, but the next generation can deliver that additional step forward. We all have multiple identities, and the more identities we embrace, the richer we become. Wealthy individuals build a prosperous country and nation." 🇧🇦

Our well-known meteorologist and doctoral researcher Nedim Sladić spoke about the importance of dedication and perseverance:
"When a person has a genuine passion for something, they will succeed. I am grateful to my sponsors and the Chevening Programme, which allowed me to be among the few able to conduct research in meteorology and contribute to our country and society." https://www.chevening.org/scholarships/

Semir Kahrimanović, founder of Bozmaps and a professional at Meta, introduced "Komšiluk", a new community networking platform currently in development that aims to connect individuals, organisations, and businesses.
"Everything you need to know – who does what, where, and who can help – will be available on Komšiluk." https://www.komsiluk.co.uk/

The Embassy walls were adorned with an outstanding exhibition featuring works by Sonja Rudan, Davorka Anđelić, Aleksandra Nina Knežević, and Aida Bartović. Their inspiring creations, rooted in themes from Bosnia and Herzegovina, are well worth seeing, and we encourage everyone to visit the exhibition. The programme was moderated by Samra Koričić Mujkić.

To conclude the evening, Ambassador H.E. Osman Topčagić delivered an important message to citizens:

"It is an election year – Please vote!" https://eregistracija.izbori.ba/

Haris Kazazic (1971 - 2026)
With deep sorrow and heavy hearts, 💔we share the news of the sudden passing of our dear friend and board member, Haris Kazazic, the long-standing President of the Bosnian Community in London (bhclnd.org), a devoted patriot, a generous supporter, and a truly remarkable human being. His passing is a tremendous loss for the entire Bosnian and Herzegovinian community in London and beyond. 🇧🇦

For decades, Haris stood beside Bosnian Supplementary School London and our wider community with quiet strength, kindness, humility, and unwavering support. He never sought recognition, yet his generosity, warm smile, and caring spirit touched countless lives. He was a true friend to many and someone deeply loved and respected by all who knew him.

Many generations of children and families benefited from his dedication and love for our community. His legacy will continue to live on through our children, our community, and everyone whose lives he touched.

We extend our deepest gratitude and heartfelt condolences to his beloved family, to his wife Sabina, who dedicated many years volunteering at Bosnian School London, and to their children, proud alumni of our school and cherished members of our community. Their kindness, warmth, and dedication reflect the very values Haris lived every single day.

Thank you, 'Hare', for your friendship, kindness, and beautiful soul. You will never be forgotten. 🙏
May you be granted eternal peace, and may the Bosnian soil rest lightly upon you. 🤲🤲🤲

Details regarding the commemoration will be shared at a later time.

Yesterday, BH Community London welcomed community members, families, students, and guests for an inspiring evening dedicated to science, health, and meaningful conversation. The event featured a fascinating presentation by Dr Nazif Alić, Professor of Ageing and Gene Regulation at the UCL Institute of Healthy Ageing and UCL Biosciences. 👨‍🔬

Dr Alić’s research explores the genetic mechanisms of ageing, particularly how the regulation of gene expression influences lifespan and the adaptability of adult physiology in Drosophila (fruit flies), with important implications for understanding human ageing. Through a highly engaging and accessible presentation, he guided the audience through the science of ageing, explaining how both genetics and environmental influences shape our health, wellbeing, and quality of life over time.

The evening quickly became more than just a scientific lecture. It opened thoughtful discussions about how we live, how we care for ourselves, and how lifestyle, nutrition, and everyday habits can influence healthy ageing and longevity. The audience participated enthusiastically, asking insightful and engaging questions throughout the presentation. Among the contributors was Professor Nedim (Dino) Hadzic of King's College Hospital, who shared valuable medical perspectives on the importance of nutrition and healthy living in supporting long-term health and well-being.

For the younger generation, the evening was equally inspiring. Students from Bosnian Supplementary School London had the opportunity to discover the fascinating world of biogenetics and ageing research firsthand. Perhaps among them are future scientists, biomedical researchers, or healthcare professionals who will one day contribute to discoveries of their own.

After the presentation, the atmosphere continued in true Bosnian spirit with homemade food, coffee, laughter, and long conversations that carried late into the evening, eventually continuing in one of Westminster’s bars. With beautiful weather, warm company, and an uplifting atmosphere, it was another memorable gathering for BH Community London, the kind of evening that brings people together through knowledge, friendship, and community.

Our sincere thanks go to Professor Dr Nazif Alić for sharing his knowledge, warmth, and time with our community, and to everyone who attended and helped make the evening so special. Special thanks also go to digital director Mirza Bašić for recording the event, and to Deen Gromilić, a young volunteer, for his voluntary work.

Until the next gathering 😊

🌟 BH Community London – Upcoming Talk 🌟- “Early Life Experiences Shape Later-Life Health” by Prof. Dr Nazif Alic (UCL)

👤 Prof. Nazif Alić (UCL)
📅 9 May 2026
⏰ 14:00
📍The Abbey Centre, Westminster SW1P 3BU

Nazif Alić, a Professor of Ageing and Gene Regulation at University College London, will deliver a talk exploring the science of ageing. Originally from Sarajevo, Nazif studied in Sydney and trained in Paris before coming to London, where he now leads research in this field.

In this presentation, Nazif will address fundamental questions such as: What is ageing? Why do we age? And can we do anything about it? Drawing on modern scientific research, he will introduce a biological understanding of ageing, focusing on how early life experiences shape health later in life and how aspects of ageing may be influenced or altered.

Join us to welcome Nazif to the community, enjoy coffee/tea, and spend time together before and after the presentation. (Feel free to bring food of your choice.)

We are now into the 4th year of such presentations. With these talks, we aim to provide current and past students of our Bosnian school, their parents, and anyone else interested with insights into different professional paths. We also hope to engage the wider community in meaningful discussions, strengthen community bonds, and reduce isolation. Visitors of all ages are welcome. ☺️

Looking forward to seeing you in the Abbey Centre on 9th May.

Ostao je uz Stolac i Stočane cijeli svoj život, posvećujući svom rodnom mjestu stotine ispisanih stranica, javnih događaja i cijelu svoju energiju.
