We will read The Gaza Monologues on

So many artists want to take actions of purpose to honour the thousands of Palestinian people lost, men, women and children.

The Israeli attack on the Gaza Strip in December 2008 - January 2009 was extremely violent and led in 22 days to the death of at least 1380 Palestinians, of whom 431 were children. The whole world was watching. In 2010, ASHTAR Theatre world decided that it was time to make the voices of children in Gaza heard and let at least their monologues travel to known places and be heard from people outside their prison Gaza. In 2024, these authors, now in their thirties, wrote monologues representing the realities of Gazans living through the ongoing genocide in Gaza Strip. These monologues are not just about Gaza—they are about the universal longing for safety, dignity, and a future where peace is an international duty towards humanity. For our performance, Flute Theatre will read from the 2010 and the 2024 monlogues honouring the experience of these people who are in urgent need of not only the world’s attention, but the world’s decisive and persistent action to stop this genocide.

Connecting the New Monologues to the original Gaza Monologues provides an opportunity for historical depth and shows continuity in documenting the lived realities of those in Gaza. We plan to connect with some of the authors via an online link after the performance to show our solidarity and offer them hope.
