AGPS saw the day in October 2012, following a workshop held to discuss the situation of Palestinian refugees in Syria. AGPS material is purely fact-based and rooted in real data compiled by

a team of professional journalists, on-the-spot reporters, news correspondents, veterans, and local activists. We are dedicated to bringing the news of the Palestinians of Syria and the human rights violations perpetrated against them to a wide audience without bias or a political agenda. As warfare drags on in war-torn Syria, AGPS staff members have taken it upon their shoulders to keep a moment-by-moment record of latest developments in Palestinian refugee camps in Syria. Speaking the truth, propagating the truth, and documenting the truth are, therefore, the key guiding lines for our mission. Families of several Palestinian detainees from Khan al-Shih refugee camp have intensified their demands for information regarding the fate of their sons and clarification of their legal status, particularly those detained since the security campaign that targeted the camp in April 2026. They are calling for a review of their cases and the release of anyone whose continued detention lacks legal or judicial justification.

The names mentioned in the appeals include: Ahmed Hamdan Abdo “Abu Muslim”, Ahmed Mahmoud Muhammad “Khattab”, Khalil Ibrahim Rashid, Muhammad Mu’tasim Hamed, and Muhammad Nour Yusuf.

The families of the detainees are demanding clarification of the legal basis for their sons’ continued detention and are calling for those against whom evidence exists to be brought to justice, while those for whom there is no legal justification for continued detention should be released.

A large meeting of Palestinian refugees from Syria in Lebanon was held at the Al-Kabri Association in the Burj al-Barajneh camp, at the invitation of the “Palestinians of Syria” group and a number of activists in Beirut. The meeting addressed their humanitarian and legal situation in light of what the attendees described as worsening crises and the absence of sustainable solutions.

The meeting focused on three main issues: voluntary return to Syria, residency status and legal protection, and the role of UNRWA in responding to the growing needs of Palestinian refugees from Syria in Lebanon.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the participants reaffirmed their unwavering commitment to the right of return to Palestine, emphasizing that asylum or any temporary humanitarian solutions, including resettlement, do not constitute a relinquishment of this right.

On Wednesday, August 12, 2026, the Action Group participated in an international symposium organized by the United Nations University (UNU) to mark International Youth Day 2026. The symposium, held via Zoom, was themed “Different Contexts, Shared Aspirations.”

The Group was represented by Mr. Nour Eddine Sundus, the organization’s correspondent in the camps, who provided an overview of the Action Group as a non-governmental human rights and media organization.

This participation aimed to highlight the reality of young people in the most affected areas and to showcase the ability of camp youth to express their aspirations despite the exceptional circumstances, reflecting the group’s commitment to ensuring their voices are heard in international forums.

The family of Palestinian youth Ahmed Hamdan Abdo, known as “Abu Muslim,” from Khan al-Shih camp in rural Damascus, appealed to the relevant authorities in Syria to clarify his legal status and reveal his place of detention, nearly four months after his arrest, according to his brother, Alaa Abdo.

Alaa stated in a Facebook post that his brother Ahmed was arrested on Thursday, April 16, 2026, after being summoned to the Political Security branch in Qatana, rural Damascus.

The family maintains that Ahmed has not yet been released, despite his reported statement that the investigations had concluded. They demand clarification regarding the legal basis for his continued detention and the judicial body, if any, handling his case.

The family of a Syrian Palestinian refugee Majed Shibli Muhammad continues its appeal for information about his fate, more than 13 years after his arrest in Jaramana camp in rural Damascus. No information or documents have been released to reveal his whereabouts to this day.

According to the family, Majed, born in Damascus in 1983 and a resident of Jaramana camp, left his home in mid-April 2013 after being lured away by a member of the Popular Committees affiliated with the General Command for the Liberation of Palestine in the camp. Since then, all contact with him has been lost.

The Syrian Ministry of Religious Endowments’ decision regarding the registration and confirmation of pilgrims for the 1448 AH/2027 CE Hajj season has brought the issue of Syrian Palestinians wishing to perform Hajj back to the forefront. The registration requirements stipulate that applicants must be “Muslims holding Syrian citizenship.”

The Action Group for Palestinians of Syria calls for an official clarification regarding the registration mechanism for Syrian Palestinians wishing to perform Hajj, and whether the decision includes any special arrangements or procedures that would enable them to perform the pilgrimage. This would put an end to the ambiguity that recurs each season.

The National Commission for Transitional Justice in Syria announced on Tuesday that it is now accepting testimonies and claims from all victims of serious crimes committed during the era of the ousted regime, including non-Syrian victims, particularly Lebanese citizens.

Radif Mustafa, the Commission’s Accountability and Reconciliation Officer, told Asharq Al-Awsat that the legal and temporal mandate of transitional justice encompasses all serious crimes, regardless of the victim’s nationality. He emphasized that “the Commission’s doors are open to victims and their families to submit their testimonies, either personally or through their legal representatives.”

A research report issued by the Action Group for Palestinians of Syria warned of rising school dropout rates among Palestinian refugee children in Syria, particularly at the primary education level for children aged 6 to 15. The report attributed the phenomenon to a range of economic, social, and educational factors.

According to the report, the school dropout rate in al-Husayniyah camp in rural Damascus ranged between 10% and 18%, while it reached approximately 5% in Jaramana camp, and was less than 1% in al-Nayrab camp in Aleppo.

The report identified economic factors as one of the most prominent reasons for school dropout, noting that approximately 50% of absences or dropouts are linked to families’ living conditions.

The Jaramana Palestinian refugee camp in rural Damascus has witnessed a surge in cases of food poisoning and gastroenteritis in recent days, according to local sources, amid fears of a wider outbreak and its impact on residents’ health.

During the tour, the committees collected samples of drinking water and domestic water for analysis in specialized laboratories to determine the presence of any contaminants that might be contributing to the increase in cases. Appropriate measures will be taken based on the test results.
