Non-animal tests are allowed, now we must make them compulsory 🚨

The 2022 FDA Modernization Act 2.0 removed an 84-year-old requirement that new drugs are tested on animals as part of their development. Now, the FDA Modernization Act 3.0 would build on its 2.0 predecessor to direct the FDA to bring its regulations in line with the changes made by the 2022 law.

The new legislation was approved by the House of Representatives in July, after the Senate had unanimously passed its companion bill, and now awaits a vote in the Senate before it can be sent to the President.

Today marks 150 years since the Cruelty to Animals Act (1876) became law in the UK, the first legislation in the world to regulate the use of animals in science.

It was secured through determined campaigning by people who refused to accept that animals could be made to suffer in laboratories without scrutiny or accountability.

As we mark this historic anniversary, we are calling on the new UK Government to seize the opportunity of new leadership and speed up the delivery the UK's Replacing Animals in Science strategy. We cannot afford more delay, and it should not take another 150 years to end animal suffering in laboratories.

By accelerating the transition to modern, human-relevant science, the UK can once again lead the world in driving progress for both animals and science 🇬🇧

Seeking greater transparency, we push for interpretation of UK law to remove unjustified blocks to information on animal testing 🚨

Last week, we took our fight for the right to know about experiments on animals in the UK to the Upper Tribunal, at a hearing held at the Royal Courts of Justice. Find out what happened 👉

We have long maintained that the public has a right to know why animals are used and suffer in cruel toxicity and other tests which have been approved by the government, especially since we know that only a small part of the picture is given in the summaries the Home Office does release.
