Bringing the vision of a cruelty-free UK to Labour Party Conference in Liverpool ✅

Our Head of Public Affairs (UK & EU), Dylan Underhill, raised animal testing at panel discussions and events, including the Labour Animal Welfare Society reception which we were very pleased to sponsor.

We were delighted to receive a strong personal commitment from the new Science Minister to deliver the strategy and end animal testing.

A special thank you to the excellent animal champions Irene Campbell MP, Terry Jermy, Ruth Jones, Alex Mayer and Josh Newbury for continuing to engage with these issues.

The ambition is there. The political support is evident. Now we need to see delivery from government.

Animals are counting on you to help save them from cruel tests this World Animal Day 😞

What makes this even more horrific is that there’s a more predictive, non-animal replacement method that could be used in most cases: a cell-based test to replace the batch test for botox products.

To draw attention to this issue we created the Replace Animal Tests (RAT) List, describing ten tests typically performed to satisfy legal requirements which are still conducted using animals, despite there being non-animal replacements known to give reliable results. The Botox test is one of them.

The actions of the U.S. National Institutes of Health’s (NIH) show that our key priorities are increasingly being reflected in NIH policy and practice.

These are all important initiatives which we have long supported through the bipartisan Humane and Existing Alternatives in Research and Testing Sciences (HEARTS) Act.

The HEARTS Act would build on this momentum by making these approaches more systematic and durable.
