Spires has been helping homeless people in Streatham and South London since the late 1980s. Spires will support anyone who is in a state of need. We aim to help people move from lives of distress, isolation and insecurity to a stable and hopeful future. From our day centre in Streatham, a dedicated team of professionals and volunteers provide a wide range of practical services to vulnerable men and women. As well as warmth, food and clothing, they will find practical support and a welcoming environment. Spires offers a wide range of services to homeless and vulnerable people in the Streatham and South London area (including Croydon, Vauxhall and Waterloo). Spires helps people who are homeless or have insecure accommodation, but are also facing many complex issues such as long-term unemployment, problems with poor mental and physical health, addiction and substance misuse, or are imprisoned by s*x work. Our focus is on long-lasting change hope for a better future. The steps taken can be large or small; taking care of their appearance again, starting to chat with other service users, taking part in an adult learning class, becoming a volunteer or applying for a position on an Adult Learning course. As well as literacy and numeracy, we have additional courses and classes to increase well-being and reduce anxiety like a music therapy class and a gardening project. Through these programs, many clients go on to employment and further education. http://www.spires.org.uk/
