Humanity Direct Humanity Direct enables people to directly fund life saving and life changing operations for children in developing countries. www.humanitydirect.org

Humanity Direct posts patient profiles online to find donors who can cover the cost of an operation for a child in some of the world's poorest countries whose family cannot afford it. Every penny donated to a specific patient is spent entirely on their surgery and medical care. So far we've funded over 230 operations.

Philanthropy is the lifeblood of many nonprofits.

We recently received two such donations that funded 37 life-saving and life changing operations.

The donations also helped us to plan more clinics safe in the knowledge that we had just cleared a significant number of hospital bills.

We are ambitious and going forward we're looking to see what else we can achieve with such generous donations.

Ideas so far range from funding community nurses who can identify surgical conditions earlier in rural areas and help provide post-op care, to launching a program to provide period products for children in the schools were we work.

Philanthropy doesn’t just fund work. It creates opportunities, strengthens healthcare systems, and saves lives.

This month marked a major milestone for our Glasses for Classes programme: we’ve delivered 5,000 pairs of glasses to children across Uganda. 👓

That means 5,000 children can now clearly see their books and writing, take their exams with confidence, and stay in school.

Thank you to everyone who donated to make this possible. 🙏

4-year-old Catherine was born with a severe congenital condition (ARM),
that risked dangerous complications and caused daily discomfort.

But donations meant Catherine was able to get the life-saving surgery she needed. The operation, broken down into three stages, was performed by paediatric surgeon Dr Sekabira.

Catherine is now recovering well and living pain-free for the first time ever. 💛

Donations covered not just the surgery but anaesthesia, medical supplies (including expensive colostomy bags) post-op care and transport.

Philanthropy is the lifeblood of many nonprofits.

For Humanity Direct, philanthropic support could make a huge difference. It would help us sustain our clinics, reach more children in areas without access to healthcare, and carry out more life-saving and life-changing operations.

It could also help us innovate for the future—from funding community nurses who can identify surgical conditions earlier in rural areas, to supporting scholarships that train more paediatric specialists in countries where there are only a handful of surgeons.

Philanthropy doesn’t just fund work. It creates opportunities, strengthens healthcare systems, and saves lives.

15-year-old Prossy has made a wonderful recovery following life-changing maxillofacial surgery.

Before her operation Prossy had been living with fibrous dysplasia, a rare bone disorder that saw her jaw swell, making it hard for her to talk and eat properly.

Thanks to donations from the XNRG fundraiser, we were able to organise for her to be operated on by maxillofacial surgeon Dr Macho.

The operation went well and Prossy has returned to school with newfound confidence.

Thank you for helping change lives. ❤️

Two-year-old Mercy has received the life-saving surgery she urgently needed — thanks to Dr Sekabira and your incredible support 💛

Born with imperforate a**s (ARM), Mercy faced constant pain and risk of serious infection.

Thanks to your donations, Mercy underwent a complex three-stage operation and has made a great recovery.

This life-changing treatment — from surgery to recovery and transport — was made possible by the entrance fee's to the XNRG Amersham Ultra.

The past couple of months have been incredibly busy but incredibly rewarding.

Generous donations helped fund 37 life-saving and life changing procedures, from complex neurosurgery and maxillofacial operations to more routine but essential treatments like hernia repairs.

Hearing this really puts things into perspective…

In the UK, a child with a hernia gets treated quickly and goes back to normal life. It’s routine. It’s safe. It’s expected.

But in many parts of the world, that same condition can kill a child because surgery simply isn't available.

Where a child is born shouldn’t determine whether they live or die from an easily treatable conditions.

📖 Our blog explains why hernia surgery is one of the most impactful operations we fund (and we've funded hundreds of them).

🌍 This month the UN marked World Health Day - a timely reminder of the UN's commitment to deliver Universal Access to Healthcare (UHC) for all by 2030.

Yet with four years to go the current lack of access to safe and timely surgery around the world remains a bigger killer of children than malaria, HIV and TB combined.

must be prioritised especially for children who are often at the back of line for such medical care.

We're working hard to fund as many life saving and life changing paediatric operations as we can.
