Seeking to develop awareness that England is 1100 years old on 12th July 2027, when Æthelstan - pronounced ‘ETH el stan’ united the Anglo Saxons and Vikings together.
Looking ahead, we want to showcase how as a nation, England is better when we come together and support each other.
Respectful of the past, but focused on the future, we want to promote unity and urge people, businesses and councils to do something to mark this unique event.
Today, Æthelstan’s only memorial is at Malmesbury Abbey, Wiltshire where he was buried in 939AD, along with a local Pilgrim’s walking trail, museum and school named after him.
Looking forward at Eamont Bridge, Cumbria, although recognised as symbolising the ‘birthplace of England’, there is no formal monument, and we think there should be.
If you agree with what we say, then why not support this campaign and lets mark England’s 1100 birthday and ensure Æthelstan’ achievements are properly respected and celebrated.
Working together, a growing band of supporters are uniting under the banner - England Together - 1100 years.
