Amaudo (meaning Village of Peace) began in 1990. Rosalind Colwill, a social worker from the UK who had been working for a number of years for the Methodist Church in Nigeria, saw that there were increasing number of homeless people with mental health problems. She gathered support locally and developed a project in the village of Itumbauzo in the South East of the country. Taking a community appro

ach to care, Amaudo Itumbauzo has since pioneered mental health care in the region, treating and supporting hundreds of adults and children in their own homes, sharing education and awareness, reducing fear and stigma and preventing destitution and homelessness.
