A huge shout out to our talented Concertothon soloists for their performances at the end of March 🙌 It’s official “you were fantastic”!

Thank you to musician and educator Nicholas Walker for your expert feedback on performances and to Ben Gale for capturing the performances on film. And of course big thanks to maestro Leon Gee and our wonderful orchestra for their musical support.

We are off to Barcelona this August for our EYO Tour and in the words of our indefatigable music director Leon Gee ‘This is the Awesome One!’. ☀️🇪🇸🎶

This tour combines a beautiful eco hostel with a stunning rooftop terrace near Barcelona beach, with concerts in fantastic venues such as Saint Maria del Mar in the heart of the Gothic Quarter (where we have audiences in excess of 600 people), Al Fresco tapas dining, and iconic sightseeing. If you don’t believe us check out the photos from 2019 (with thanks to our former players 😁)!

It’s a tour we’ve perfected over the years and is one of the best (if not THE BEST!). We can’t wait to set off on this ‘much-more-than-the-sums-of-it’s-parts heady combination of EYO Tour and cool Barcelona!’ (Leon’s description!). So see you there 🕶️ 😁.

The power of working collaboratively with professional musicians was on show at EYO’s Winter Concert. It was a delight to welcome back musicians for a third ‘side-by-side’, guiding our players through the challenging repertoire. It was also a treat to welcome back international concert pianist, local superstar and EYO alumnus . Together we lifted our music making to the next level 🙌

Expertly led by Music Director Leon Gee, we started with the seminal Firebird Suite by Stravinsky with all its striking colour and intensity before hearing one of the most beautiful renditions of Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No. 3, a performance so full of expressive depth and virtuosity that it brought people in from the street! We finished with the rich texture of Rachmaninov’s Symphonic Dances, a fitting end to a powerful concert with its rhythmic vitality and sense of reflection. 🔉for some short clips🔈

Thank you for a truly memorable concert. Thank you to all our players, teachers and volunteers who make EYO possible and thank you to the team at St Barnabas Church for all your support accommodating us.

Our autumn concert was a 💥 and the fireworks just couldn’t compete!!

We had a full house at St Martin’s Church to hear a dazzling display led by pyrotechnic maestro himself - Leon Gee. A particularly incredible achievement for an orchestra with 27 new members!

We were treated to Dvořák’s Symphony No. 8, Chabrier’s España and Bizet’s L’Arlésienne Suites 1&2.
There were colourful 🎆tunes, starry ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ solos and explosive 🧨 percussion. All in all, a night to remember.

Thank you to everyone who helped make the evening such a success including our amazing conductor, our sectional tutors and players, staff at St Michael’s Church, our helpful volunteers and supportive parents and last but definitely not least - our committed players.

Well that was amazing 🤩 🔥

In the words of our Conductor, Leon Gee, this was an orchestra truly bonded, musically and socially, performing repertoire with excellence and a unified clarity of purpose, all with such beautiful and powerful depth.

Leavers - you are incredible and we miss you! Your kind words demonstrated how EYO has shaped you but you also shaped your orchestra.

Some of our favourite Leaver comments:

I’ve made such great friends 😁
I will treasure these years for the rest of my life 😊
Tour was such a highlight - even the coach journeys 😂
My only regret is not joining earlier 👍
What will we do with our Friday nights now?❓🤨 ……………
