Lloyd's Choir

Lloyd's Choir Lloyd’s Choir is a vibrant mixed voice choir at the heart of the City of London. Katharine Cree. The choir’s patron is Lord Levene, Chairman of Lloyd’s.

Besides its annual orchestral concert, the choir gives several concerts each year, usually at St. Christmas is always busy; as well as the choir’s own carol concert, carols are sung at the Rostrum in the Underwriting Room at Lloyd’s, and at other venues in the City. It has also been possible for the choir to escape from the City occasionally to give concerts in country churches at summer weekends.

Members of the choir also sing at a variety of church services during the year, usually at St. Katharine Cree, and are available to sing at services and other functions. Although the choir now attracts singers from the entire City financial community and beyond, membership is still dominated by those working in the insurance market. In some quarters it is said that Lloyd’s Choir is a rare example of a situation where underwriters and brokers are always in harmony…or nearly always! In 1999 the choir released a CD of a ca****la folksong arrangements under the title City Folk. A second CD, recorded between 2003 and 2006 at St. Mary at Hill, was released in late 2006. City Renaissance contains some of the choir’s favourite Renaissance motets, English madrigals and a Victoria Mass. In autumn 2005, the choir was successful in auditioning for the 2006 International Musical Eisteddfod in Llangollen, North Wales. The International Eisteddfod is a world-renowned festival of music, song and dance, attracting competitors from more than 50 countries for one week in July. The choir is looking forward very much to this wonderful opportunity. In July 2006, the choir took part in the International Musical Eisteddfod in Llangollen, North Wales. The experience of participating in a world-renowned festival of music, song and dance, along with competitors from around the globe, was a very exciting and fulfilling one for the choir. In addition to the main choir, we have a flexible chamber group, The Choral Syndicate, which is open to all members of the choir on an ad hoc basis. In the Syndicate, we explore smaller scale works of various musical styles. The Choral Syndicate is available for hire to sing at weddings, memorial services, corporate events and other special occasions at any location. The Choir is grateful to all its Friends, Patrons and Sponsors for their generous support.

It was an absolute pleasure and privilege to perform Haydn's The Creation last week, accompanied by the Cohen Ensemble and soloists from the RCM, under the direction of the outstanding Jacques Cohen. It would not be possible to perform works of such scale alongside professional musicians if it was not for the amazing support and generosity of our corporate sponsors. Our heartfelt thanks to: Acrisure, Brit Insurance, CNA Insurance, DUAL UK, Keystone Law, Lloyd's, Markel International, Newline Group, RenaissanceRe Here's a picture from the end of the concert - the smiles say it all!
