Join us for Gospel by Candleight in London this Saturday!

Gospel music grew out of the hardest parts of history to become a universal language, blending deep emotion with celebration. In just 4 days time, we are tracking that evolution live in London. Our programme covers over a century of music, looking at the Jubilee era from 1870, the jazz/blues fusion from 1930, the “Golden Age” of 1940-1960, the civil rights and soul era from 1960, the popular era from 1980 and the urban era from 2000.

Gospel music is a wonder of the world. It’s a story of hope and beauty that grew out of the hardest parts of history to become a universal language.

On Saturday 6th June, Soul Sanctuary Gospel Choir will trace that journey at St Martin-in-the-Fields, from the sounds of West African spirituals to the urban beats of the 2000s and beyond, interspersed by brief texts prepared for the occasion under the guidance of author and radio host Robert Marovich.
