In the final scene of Cinema Paradiso, Salvatore watches a montage of all the shots of kisses censored through the years by the village priest. It reminds us not only of the extraordinary potential of film to shape our understanding of love and life, but also of the wickedness of suppressing the arts and limiting people’s access to the wonder of cinema ⭐
But, at the University of Exeter, Film Studies is under attack... and they need your help.
LOCO is appalled to hear of proposals to make a quarter of Film and Television lecturers at UoE redundant 🚨
These cuts to jobs are part of a targeted assault on the arts and humanities and will erode the opportunities of thousands of students – now and in the future – to develop their creative and critical voices.
In a political moment in which the arts could not be more important, this is an act of cultural and intellectual vandalism ‼️
The future for LOCO’s Artistic Director Benedict (who lectures at Exeter) as well as many interns who have worked with LOCO over the years is now in doubt.
