Hayashen Armenian Youth Club 13th June 2026! ๐Ÿ•โœจ

We kicked things off the session with an interactive workshop on the art of respectful debate. The youth learned that debate is based on verbally and respectfully defending a point of view by giving compelling reasons, while others provide counter view reasons. The youth then put their new skills to the test, tackling a huge topic: Should social media be banned or limited for under-16s? ๐Ÿ“ฑโŒ

Passions ran high, but they made some incredibly mature points. Their conclusion? A ban for under-10's, but for older kids, a healthy balance of parental boundaries and trust.

All that brainpower called for a serious feast! The night wrapped up with chicken burgers and pizza, followed by everyone chilling out to watch the Canada vs. Bosnia & Herzegovina World Cup match. ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฆโšฝ๐Ÿ‡ง๐Ÿ‡ฆ

Thanks to everyone who brought their energy and ideas! See you at the next session on 3 July. A totally different session with Lizzy Vartanian leading an interactive Armenian Embroidery workshop. And probably another World Cup football match!

CAIA Annual Away Day

On a Saturday in May, CAIA staff, volunteers, interested members and trustees gathered for its annual Away Day. The charity provides so many services but it is rare for all those involved to be able to meet at the same time. The purpose was essentially to do some team building through having awareness of key updated policies and procedures, exploring a range of scenarios, and continuing to highlight the importance of succession planning - after all, our Misak is 70 years young and would like to delegate more of his current duties over time.

The active gathering led to greater cohesion of the CAIA team, with two volunteers saying that they felt more a part of the CAIA family, a graduate confirming subsequently that he would like to work with us on an internship, and our advice worker sending a voice message from the hospital while his wife was in labour just so that he could contribute to his part of the agenda. It was such a positive experience, especially as it highlighted to us all what a special and important organisation CAIA is; just why we do what we do, and that it is built on the care and love for community by those who work, volunteer or support this charity.

If you would be interested in taking a more active part with CAIA then we would love to hear from you.

We are looking to expand our Board with a Treasurer Trustee, staff team with a Centre Manager, and more volunteers for our library and the CAIA's 40th Anniversary Celebrations.

๐ŸŽ‰ Another fantastic session at CAIAโ€™s Hayashen Youth Club! ๐Ÿ•๐ŸŽ‚

Our session on Friday, May 29th was packed with learning, laughs, and lots of celebration.

We kicked things off with an eye-opening workshop on "How to Save Money." ๐Ÿ’ฐ The group tackled the big question, "What is money?" and explored how paper currency evolved over time. The young people dived into what we actually use money for, introducing core concepts like Needs, Wants, Saving, Giving, and Investing.

Through an interactive exercise, our youth:
โœ… Mastered the difference between "needs" vs. "wants."
โœ… Explored why saving matters (and shared what they are currently saving for!).
โœ… Discovered smarter ways to grow their moneyโ€”moving beyond the classic piggy bank (which doesn't pay interest!) to explore options like Junior ISAs. ๐Ÿ“ˆ

Of course, it wasn't all business! We wrapped up the night by celebrating two birthdays with delicious cakes ๐ŸŽ‚ and refuelling with a crowd-favourite pizza supper! ๐Ÿ•

Thank you to everyone who joined us and brought such great energy to the discussion. See you at the next session! ๐Ÿ‘‹โœจ
