Raincatcher Imperial

Raincatcher Imperial Raincatcher Imperial is a student-led charity with a rich history of both infrastructure and community development projects since our formation in 2008.

We work with Raincatcher, a registered charity under the UK Charity Commission and local non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) such as Caritas in Tabora, Tanzania. Since 2009, we have visited various communities in arid regions in Tanzania, with an aim to improve access to and education of clean water, sanitation and hygiene. We welcome all students from any academic background to join our cause.

We hope to use this page to tell you more about what we do and how we aim to achieve those end results.

Hi all,
Now that we're officially into the new academic year, I'd like to announce our brilliant new committee members: Morgan Phelps, who will be president, and Salma Khan, who will be treasurer! Both worked with us last year and will be leading our exciting projects next year, which will culminate in what I'm sure will be a brilliant 2022 summer project in Tanzania.

However... will are still very much in need of more committee members who help us achieve our objectives and improve the lives of people in rural Tanzania! The positions still available are:
Secretary
Publicity Officer
Fundraising Officer
Even if you have never been involved with Raincatcher before, if you are interested in being a part of the team, we would love to hear from you, as enthusiasm and dedication are just as useful to the role as experience. Message this Raincatcher FB page, our new committee members or me (Joe Witchalls) if you are interested!
Thanks everyone!!

Some very exciting news...!!! Our project proposal was accepted by IC Trust and IC Union! Therefore we will be receiving £2500, which, along with the £500 we fundraised over the year, will fund the construction of two boreholes. These boreholes will be placed in areas which desparately need access to clean water and will also help the local people deal with potential covid-19 outbreaks.

Alongside the construction of these boreholes by our partners, the team at Raincatcher will be working remotely during August on a practical instruction book with Mboni Ya Vijana, our NGO partner in Tanzania, to teach people how to site, construct and maintain a borehole.

We want to say a big thanks to all the people who donated during our month-long collective fundraising run and to all the people who have put time into Raincatcher this year and will be working with us in August!

Hi all!

As we are now getting underway with Fresher's Fair at Imperial, I would like to welcome potential new recruits to our society! For over 10 years at Raincatcher we have been working in rural Tanzania to provide the basic needs for people through water and education projects.

This year in particular, we are starting a new wave of projects based around practical skills and education which will allow young people to gain skills which they can use to improve their community. Many people will often quit primary school or secondary school early and therefore the practical skills and workshops that we will be working on will be vital to give many of these people a chance in life.

Our projects will range from boreholes and hydrogeology, to using solar panels and circuits, to building natural fridges. We value every type of skillset that new members can provide, so whatever your degree, whatever your age, the skills and enthusiasm that you bring will be vital!

We have a brilliant team for the committee already but we need people like you if we want to make a real difference to the lives of less fortunate people. If this sounds like something you would like to do, we would love you to message us, which you can do on this page, or by email.

See you soon!

Joe
