Borneo Orangutan Survival UK - BOS UK Working alongside BOS Foundation in Indonesia, we bring you closer to the cause and help you protect the Orangutan and its rainforest habitat. http://bos-uk.org

Every morning, we start the day by imagining the orangutan where they belong - wild, free and safe in the flourishing pristine rainforests of Malaysia and Indonesia, fulfilling their role in the preservation of its natural habitat, and safeguarding the survival of its species - in harmony with the indigenous communities of these countries. We strive every day to be the difference they need us to b

e to realise this vision but the situation as far as orangutans and rainforests are concerned is critical. The ever-increasing demand in developed countries for palm oil and timber is decimating the rainforests of Borneo, and consequently its orangutan population as well. If nothing is done to halt this devastation, the orangutan could be facing extinction in the wild within the next 10 years. To address this problem, we are supporting the Nyaru Menteng Rescue Sanctuary which cares for more than 400 orangutans, and Restorasi Habitat Orangutan Indonesia, which will provide a permanent and safe home for those orangutans who are able to be returned to the wild.

It's easy to steal a treat, but consistent guidance from the Surrogate Mother encourages the students to find natural food sources on their own. This is a crucial part of the rehabilitation process as the orphans prepare to progress from Forest School to a pre-release island.

Island Update ๐Ÿ๏ธ Jelapat lives on pre-release Badak Besar Island. He's a shy, solitary individual, which is no bad thing, as he avoids potential conflict while quietly observing the behaviour of the other orangutans. He's a very smart boy! ๐Ÿง

Meet the Residents! Kikan was illegally kept as a pet before arriving at Samboja Lestari. She graduated from forest school and went to a pre-release island where she became very ill. The vets saved her life & she now lives on a Sanctuary Island where she can be closely monitored.

This planet of ours which offers such abundant gifts needs our protection. So many take these gifts for granted, and by doing so imperil us all. The future of our planet depends on the choices we make today, and everyone can play their part.

A new sun bear has arrived at Samboja Lestari. This female is not only a victim of a snare trap, but had also been shot. Considering her age and condition, recovery is expected to take a while, but at least she's safe in loving care now. ๐Ÿป bos-uk.org/saving-a-sun-bear/
