We think Andy Burnham would have loved the ORT JUMP Alternative Work Experience Week 2026 as we’re already implementing his new education proposals!

As part of our programme, we connect Year 12 students with local employers to develop key employability skills that aren’t taught in the classroom. This is exactly what the new Prime Minister is aiming towards in today’s headlines.

Last week, our 32 ORT JUMP participants from 10 different schools, worked in teams on a variety of workplace projects set by professionals. Each task was linked to a specific industry and designed to develop an array of transferable skills such as collaborative working, creative thinking and market research.

Students also benefitted from expert-led interactive discussions on presentation skills, financial planning and using AI effectively, plus had the opportunity to network with professionals.

Our facilitators and placement providers were so impressed with the teams’ final presentations, which demonstrated how much each student had learned and developed throughout the week.

Did you know that over 3500 young people have taken part in the ORT JUMP Mentoring Programme since it launched in 2009?

With many of our alumni now 'giving back' as mentors, we assured our 450 new graduates that the support doesn't end here.

We would love to offer more events, networking and fundraising opportunities for alumni and to hear feedback and ideas to help us grow and develop the programme.

This time last week we were busy prepping for the ORT JUMP Mentoring Programme Graduation, hoping the England game clash wouldn’t scupper our plans!

But we needn’t have worried - nearly 500 dedicated mentees, mentors, school professionals and parents poured into the venue to celebrate the programme with us.

It was such an incredible evening showcasing the impact of mentoring on young lives. Our programme really does JUMP-start career journeys, empowering young people with the knowledge, skills and confidence to fulfil their potential.

We were thrilled to welcome over 450 mentees, mentors, school professionals and parents to celebrate with us at The ORT JUMP Mentoring Programme Graduation yesterday.

It was an incredibly inspiring evening hearing multiple stories about the life-changing impact of our mentoring programme. This was followed by a prize-giving ceremony awarding some of our wonderfully ambitious and hard-working students whose commitment to the programme really shined throughout the year.

Thank you to our guest speaker Talia Shabatai, Director of Legal and Business Affairs at Island Records, and to journalist, TV commentator and best-selling ghost writer, Nicole Lampert, who led a conversation about the impact of mentoring when pursuing your career goals.

Huge thanks also goes to our mentors and mentees, Ava Rose, Hilary Davidson, Josh Harris, Coby Azari and Melanie Azari who shared with us the positive effect the programme has had on their career journeys.
