Our thoughts and prayers are with the ORT Israel community.

We are deeply saddened by news of an explosion in northern Israel that occurred during an ORT Israel school field trip. Tragically, a 15-year-old student was killed, and a number of students and teachers were wounded, some seriously. The wounded were evacuated to regional hospitals, and preliminary reports indicate the blast involved unexploded ordnance. Authorities are investigating the circumstances.

The Israeli Ministry of Education and local authorities are working to provide support for the school community and affected families.

Please join us in sending our deepest condolences to the family of the victim and holding the entire ORT Israel community close to our hearts during this painful time. We stand together in solidarity.

Three years on from the atrocities and it's still impossible to comprehend the abhorrent events of October 7th. We continue to grieve deeply as a community and our hearts ache for the loved ones of the victims who needlessly lost their lives and all those affected on this tragic day.

We will never forget.

ORT JUMP TRAINING AND IMPACT PROJECT MANAGER

Hours: Part-time – 3 days
Contract: Fixed-term, 2 years
Location: Hybrid, with some in-person delivery
Reporting to: Head of Programmes
Salary: £30,000 per annum DOE for 3 days per week

We are looking for an experienced Project Manager to lead a new two-year programme which will develop, deliver and evaluate training for ORT UK volunteers.

At ORT UK we love the start of a new school year because it means we have the opportunity to deliver our ORT JUMP programmes to a further 1500 students!

Year 12 students can sign up the the ORT JUMP Mentoring Programme this term and receive one-to-one guidance to help them JUMP-start their career journey. There'll also be further opportunities throughout the year to take part in our Employability Skills programmes.

In our 14 partner schools, Years 7, 9 and 10 will also have the chance to take part in our Employability Skills programmes, developing key transferable skills led by experts who work in a wide range of industries.

We've been emphasising the importance of teaching employability skills for years and now Alan Milburn's NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training) report is back in the news, insisting that young job-seekers need better soft skills training to improve their employment prospects.

This is exactly why we created the ORT JUMP Mentoring and Employability Skills programmes. Together with over 500 volunteers, we help school-aged students develop the 'soft skills, work readiness and resilience' that, according to today's article in Business Matters Magazine, is lacking, 'fuelling Britain's youth unemployment crisis.'

The piece explains that the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) surveyed 500 businesses, who also raised concerns about work experience opportunities. Maybe they should check out our ORT JUMP Alternative Work Experience Week!

While in another survey of over 1000 education professionals, 'nearly three quarters said there was too much focus on passing exams and that the curriculum should be broadened to include more work-related skills.'
