The Worshipful Company of Carmen are saddened by the passing of Lord Snape -
Peter Charles Snape, Baron Snape 12 February 1942 – 13 August 2026.

We will remember him for his dry sense of humour, quick quips and his huge understanding and support of our industry.

He was a British Labour Party politician and served as a Member of Parliament for West Bromwich East from February 1974 until he stood down in the 2001 election.

Lord Snape was the chairman of his hometown football club, Stockport County, as well as being a major shareholder in the club at the time of his chairmanship.

Lord Snape was a member of the following groups:

He became vice-chairman of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Speedway Racing in July 2015.

All-Party Parliamentary Group for Bus and Coach (Co-Chair).

All-Party Parliamentary Group on Heritage Rail (Vice Chair)

All-Party Parliamentary Group for SME (Small and Medium-sized Enterprises) House Builders (Officer).

All-Party Parliamentary Group for Australia and New Zealand (ANZAC) and the Pacific Islands.

All-Party Parliamentary Beer Group.

Our thoughts are with his family.

A very happy birthday to our Past Master Carman, HRH The Princess Royal.

The Princess Royal made Carmen history when she became our first female Master Carman in 1986 and has remained a great friend and supporter of the Company ever since.

We are enormously proud of our longstanding association with Her Royal Highness and grateful for her continued support for the Carmen, our work and the wider transport and logistics community.

From everyone at the Worshipful Company of Carmen, we wish Her Royal Highness a very happy birthday.

Can you help Vehicles4Ukraine?

The volunteer team behind Vehicles4Ukraine, supported through the Carmen General Charity, has a few practical requests for help:

* Saturday 16 August, High Easter, Essex – volunteers are needed to help with marshalling and the car park at the annual Lodge Coaches Charity Car & Air Show, between 08:00 and 16:00. Contact Robert on 07799 116796.

* Vehicle collection – help is needed to collect a car from Bedford and bring it to Essex on Monday.

* Aid transport – the team is looking for either someone with their own lorry who could move aid from Swindon to Essex, or an HGV driver able to take the campaign’s lorry from Essex to Swindon and back.

If you can help with either of the transport requests, please contact Graham on 07810 865906.

Any support would be greatly appreciated.

It was good to see the Carmen represented at the CPT Ride & Drive event at Carver Barracks, near Saffron Walden in Essex.

The event brings together bus and coach operators, manufacturers and suppliers, giving attendees the opportunity to see and test drive some of the latest vehicles and technology, as well as catch up with colleagues from across the industry.

Pictured are Karen Tiley, Sam Wharf and Master Carman Andy Miles enjoying the event.

As many will know, The Hon. Tim Levene will take office as one of the Sheriffs of the City of London later this year.

The office of Sheriff is one of the oldest civic offices in the United Kingdom, dating back to the Middle Ages. During their year in office, the Sheriffs support the Lord Mayor in representing the City of London, champion the UK's financial and professional services sector, and play an important role in supporting the work of the Central Criminal Court (Old Bailey).

By long-standing tradition, each Sheriff wears a unique Chain and Badge of Office, reflecting the people, organisations and communities that have supported them throughout their career. The chain is funded through voluntary contributions from friends, colleagues and supporters.

If you would like to support Tim's Shrieval Chain Appeal, you can contribute here:

Please note that album recording the names of all subscribers will accompany the chain, so if you choose to donate please drop a line to Lars Andersen at [email protected] to let him know how you would like your name to appear in it.

Thank you to all those who choose to support one of our own as Tim prepares to take up this historic office.
