North London Hospice is a registered charity that has been caring for local people since 1984. We help those with a potentially life-limiting illness who have specialist needs. We welcome people from all faiths and communities within the boroughs of Barnet, Enfield and Haringey offering physical, emotional and spiritual care. We are now also able to offer some of our services to people within Camden and Islington.

Since 1987, Black History Month has been celebrated every October in the UK. It is a time to recognise and celebrate the history, achievements and contributions of Black communities, while encouraging continued action to address inequalities and create a more inclusive society.

This year's theme, Honouring Our Communities, invites us to recognise the individuals whose everyday contributions shape, support and strengthen communities across the UK. It shines a light on the people who strengthen communities through acts of care, leadership, advocacy and service.

Marking Black History Month at North London Hospice gives us the opportunity to celebrate the rich diversity of the communities we serve and reflect on how we can continue to provide equitable, compassionate care for everyone. It also helps us raise awareness of hospice and end-of-life care, challenge misconceptions, and ensure our services remain accessible and welcoming to all.

Through initiatives such as strengthening cultural competence, developing faith-specific training resources, and creating opportunities for patients and families to share their experiences, we continue to learn from and better support our diverse communities.

As we mark Black History Month, we celebrate the individuals and communities whose contributions make a difference every day, and renew our commitment to providing the best of life, at the end of life, for everyone. 💙

A huge well done and thank you, Paige! On 20 September, Paige took on the Shoreditch Half Marathon with her friend Rishi, in memory of her beloved aunt Deirdre ‘Dids’, who was cared for North London Hospice earlier this year. Running with red and white ribbon in her hair in memory of Dids, a huge Arsenal fan, made the day even more special.

Paige crossed the finish line in an amazing 2 hours and 4 minutes, and has raised over £1,500 for the hospice!

Paige said “It was a great day and legs have just about recovered! Thank you for the support, I’m very happy to have raised money for a great cause!”

And a huge thank you to everyone who donated and supported Paige along the way💙👏

We were so sad to learn today of the death of North London Hospice's former patron and veteran broadcaster, Dame Esther Ranzen.

Announcing her death yesterday, Dame Esther Rantzen's children said in their statement that: “Mum’s work with charities and campaigning, particularly for children, older people, and the terminally ill, meant the world to her.”

At North London Hospice we were honoured that this commitment, passion and campaigning work extended to helping us and our patients.

Dame Esther, was a patron of our hospice for many years and is pictured here with our longstanding volunteer Joe Attridge (left) and John Bryce, our North London Hospice Chair from 2011-2018.

Our Inpatient Unit has been a place of goodbyes for over 30 years but now it must be rebuilt. A place of endings is coming to its own end, and the bricks that have witnessed 10,000 goodbye tears will say their own goodbye.

As a fitting farewell to this special building and, in honour of the people it has held, our Spiritual Care Coordinator, Simon Rowbory, has recorded this beautiful poem.

Behind every North London Hospice charity shop is a fantastic team of volunteers helping customers, supporting their community, and making a difference every day.

A huge thank you to Edmonton Cycle Club for their incredible support of North London Hospice through their annual Les Bailey Memorial Ride.

We are delighted to have received a fantastic donation of £1,180, raised through this year's event.

A special thank you to everyone who took part, donated, and supported the ride. Your generosity helps us continue providing compassionate care and support to patients and families across North London.

We would also like to thank Colin Raizon, our dedicated Volunteer Ambassador, who represented the hospice at the cheque presentation evening. Colin spoke about the work of North London Hospice and helped celebrate this amazing fundraising achievement with club members.
