International Anglican Family Network is currently exploring the theological concept of family as the primary place of belonging and how the churches of the Anglican Communion and Christian-based organisations are working to sustain that sense of belonging as part of their mission and outreach. ‘Family’ does not fit with any single understanding or description but, at its best, is a group of peopl

e in relationship within which each one is given status, identity and dignity - because ‘we belong’. There are many forces and pressures, personal actions and inactions, which can put us outside of the family because status, identity and even safety are lost. The parable of the Lost Son in Luke’s Gospel gives us a model of the family as a reconciling community, where reconciliation is possible because forgiveness, love, and inner grace are present. IAFN’s latest newsletters gather stories from around the Communion that show how the Church can support families wherever there is estrangement and the need to belong once more.

St Paul’s 150th Celebratory Service – Live stream details

We have arranged for the service to be live streamed via the Mothers’ Union page (this page!). So, if you were unable to join at the cathedral, you can still be part of this joyous celebration. You may want to watch together with other members.

The service starts at 5pm UK time on 10 June (it may start 10 minutes later, depending how long it takes the congregation to be seated!). Make sure your page notifications are on to get the message when we go live for this special occasion.

An important reflection on the push back on equality between women and men

An important reflection on the push back on equality between women and men

At a pivotal moment for global gender justice, the Anglican Alliance's Director for Gender Justice, Mandy Marshall, offers an inside look at a tense and unprecedented session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW70), where hard-won commitments to gender equality faced significant challenges and unexpected votes.

Her reflection highlights both the fragility of progress and the growing risk of regression on women’s rights, while calling on individuals, churches, and communities to take action – through advocacy, prayer, and engagement – to ensure these commitments are upheld.

Commenting on how churches and individuals can respond, Mandy says: 'It requires all of us to lobby our own governments to implement the Agreed Conclusions and fully fund work to achieve gender equality, without redirecting funding from existing projects. It means we need to be ready to not only pray, but to act, to be present at the CSW (either in person or online) to make sure our voices are heard.'

A new resource from Kyria inviting us to 'think again' about key passages of scripture.

Take a look

"My prayer is that Think Again will help many to read Scripture with fresh humility, and to recover a vision of leadership that reflects the mutuality of the new creation. This is not a fringe issue, nor a finished one. It touches the heart of God and the credibility of the Church’s witness in the world.

The invitation before us is simple, but costly:
to look again,
to listen again,
and to allow the Word of God—read in the light of God’s redemptive story—to form communities where women and men lead together for the sake of the world God loves" - Terran Williams

A new resource from the Anglican Alliance

We are delighted to announce the launch of our new People on the Move resource, created to equip churches to welcome and support migrants, refugees and internally displaced people within their communities. This resource has been produced in partnership with the Anglican Communion Office’s United Nations advocacy representatives.

An online event today marked the launch, featuring guest speakers from UNHCR, Archbishop Maimbo from Tanzania, the Mission for Migrant Workers Hong Kong, and the Diocese in Europe.

Rob Dawes, Executive Director of the Anglican Alliance, says:
‘In today’s global context, migration is increasing at an unprecedented rate, driven by a complex mix of factors including climate change, conflict, rising poverty and reductions in international aid. Across the Anglican Communion, churches are responding with compassion and courage, offering sanctuary, practical assistance and spiritual care to those forced to flee their homes.

‘People on the Move’ is intended to support and strengthen that response, equipping churches to act with wisdom, confidence and Christ-centered compassion in their local contexts.’

We look forward to hearing how churches use the resource to support people on the move in their communities.
