🐝 What a buzzing weekend at !

We loved chatting with so many of you about all things beekeeping β€” from hive life to honey harvests. Our observation hive was a big hit, giving everyone a close-up look at the magic inside a bee colony. πŸπŸ‘€βœ¨

Big thanks to our amazing LBKA members who sold their delicious honey 🍯, helped with candle rolling, and shared their passion with the public.

And of course, a huge shoutout to the volunteers who made it all happen β€” our community is the heart of what we do. πŸ’›

Here’s what happened at last Sunday's Wax Moth Workshop at our Battersea Park Zoo apiary πŸπŸ“Έ!

Wax Moth can be a serious threat, decimating a honey bee colony by destroying precious beeswax comb. That’s why it was so valuable for our members to hear from Howard Nichols, who leads the education side of LBKA.

He guided us through the risks of Wax Moth infestations. Here are his top tips to help keep our hives healthy:
🐝 Tip 1: Weak or diseased colonies are more vulnerable to wax moth problems.
πŸ› οΈ Tip 2: Regularly replace old comb with fresh foundation and keep hives and floorboards free of debris.
βš—οΈ Tip 3: Sterilise comb using acetic acid fumes or fumigate with sulphur dioxide (SOβ‚‚) to control infestations.

Were you at the workshop? Let us know in the comments.

Thanks to Howard for sharing his expertise and helping us safeguard our colonies! Stay tuned for more tips and workshops from LBKA!
