Universities have paid £400 million in redundancy payouts in a single year, an increase of 60 per cent on the previous 12 months, according to the Sunday Times.

Its analysis of more than 100 universities’ annual accounts reveals that they spent £402 million in the 2024-25 financial year on voluntary and compulsory redundancy payouts, up from £251 million in 2023-24.

City of Liverpool College has suddenly cancelled all A-level provision for new students withdrawing offers just as many were receiving their GCSE results.

Students and staff have been badly let down.

Colleges need stable funding to protect choice, provision and communities.

The University and College Union (UCU) has today expressed serious concern after City of Liverpool College announced yesterday that it is cancelling its A-level provision and withdrawing all offers made to students due to start courses this year.
