Under Attack, But Not Deterred
Earlier this week, A missile fired from Iran struck the University of Haifa , atop Mount Carmel. By sheer luck, no one was hurt — but this was a reality check. Our campus is visible, vulnerable and within range of Iran's long-range missiles and Hezbollah along the Lebanese border, just miles away.

Classes are online. Hundreds of students are on reserve duty. 25 out of 74 in our inaugural medical class have been called up to serve.

The work doesn't stop. It can't.

If there was ever a moment to stand with the University of Haifa, this is it.

A message from the battlefield — 2,000 years later.

Researchers at the University of Haifa have uncovered a rare sling bullet from the Hellenistic period at ancient Hippos (Sussita), overlooking the Sea of Galilee. Inscribed with a single Greek word — “ΜΑΘΟΥ” (“Learn”) — it is thought to carry the pointed message: “learn your lesson.”

The discovery offers a fascinating glimpse into ancient warfare, where even in the heat of battle, messages like this were used to taunt or unsettle an opponent.

Finds like this reflect the depth and impact of the University of Haifa’s ongoing archaeological research, bringing the past vividly to life and deepening our understanding of the region’s history.

From the Press
‘Interfaith work has failed — we need to move to action’ says Israeli professor.

INTERFAITH work has failed to contain animosity between communities over the past five years, and the Church of England lacks status in Israel, an Israeli professor has suggested this week.

Professor Uriel Simonsohn is senior lecturer in the Department of Middle Eastern History in the University of Haifa. He spoke on Tuesday from his home in Israel.

On this Yom Kippur we are heartbroken by the tragic attack in Manchester. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their families, and all affected. At times like these we are reminded of the importance of unity, compassion, and standing together against hatred. HaMakom yenachem.
