🇹🇷 EJN President Aidan White is attending the European Federation of Journalists (EFJ) Annual Meeting in Ankara, co-organised by the Journalists' Association (GCD).

Held under the theme "Independent Journalism Under Siege," the gathering brings together journalists, trade union representatives and media leaders from across Europe at a time of growing concern for media freedom and journalists' rights.

🤝 The meeting also serves as an important act of solidarity with Turkish journalists working under significant political and legal pressure.

EJN is proud to join discussions on the global crisis facing journalism, the impact of AI and digital transformation, working conditions in the media sector, conflict reporting, and the defence of press freedom.

Independent journalism is essential to democracy. Ethical journalism is essential to public trust.

🔊 An inspiring and energising evening on May 27 at the Ethical Journalism Network Town Hall in Brussels, marking EJN’s renewed presence in the city where the network was originally established.

Hosted at the Brussels Press Club, the event brought together more than 30 attendees including journalists, media professionals, students of media and communications, and friends and supporters of ethical journalism. 📰

EJN President Aidan White reflected on the evening:

“The Ethical Journalism Network relaunch event at the Brussels Press Club yesterday was hugely inspiring. Old and new friends met to discuss a programme that will put ethics at the heart of new strategies to strengthen quality and independence for news media. A great start for a new beginning.”

Innovation in journalism cannot come at the expense of accountability.

On May 12 at VUB (Vrije Universiteit Brussel), students were joined by a special guest lecturer, Aidan White, President of the Ethical Journalism Network, for a discussion on ethics, AI and the future of news.

The conversation will focus on a critical question: how can journalism adapt to artificial intelligence while maintaining its core principles?

“From misinformation and bias to the risks of automation, the message is clear — ethical frameworks must evolve alongside technology," says White. "Journalism’s responsibility to the public remains unchanged."

🎉 The winners of the 7th Annual Fetisov Journalism Awards (FJA) 2026 were announced this week, following a gala ceremony in Limassol, Cyprus on 22 April.

📰 Widely regarded as the world’s richest journalism awards, this year’s winners told extraordinary stories exposing the realities of war, exploitation, and environmental harm.

🏆The four top prizes were awarded to:
* Yuval Abraham for a courageous investigation into genocidal violence in Gaza (Outstanding Investigative Reporting)
* Pierre Leibovici for exposing forced labour and worker exploitation linked to global supply chains (Contribution to Civil Rights)
* Wolfgang Bauer for reporting on the largely overlooked war in Sudan (Outstanding Contribution to Peace)
* Stéphane Horel and a cross-border team of 46 journalists for uncovering a major environmental disinformation campaign (Excellence in Environmental Journalism)

👏Each winning entry received 100,000 CHF, with additional prizes awarded to runners-up and third place finalists.

🔈As Aidan White, President of the Ethical Journalism Network, & General Director of FJA said: “These are stories of courage, integrity and journalism at its most vital — exposing injustice and giving voice to those too often ignored.”
