Brent Faces Extreme Heatwave as Temperatures Soar Across London

Residents across Brent are experiencing one of the most intense heatwaves in recent years, with temperatures climbing well above seasonal averages and authorities urging people to take precautions during the hottest days of the week.

The current heatwave is part of a wider weather event affecting much of southern England and Western Europe. Meteorologists have warned that temperatures in London could approach 37–39°C, placing significant pressure on public services, transport networks, schools, and healthcare facilities. Recent forecasts suggest the heat could challenge long-standing June temperature records across the UK.

For Brent residents, the impact is already being felt. Parks and open spaces are seeing increased visitor numbers as people seek relief outdoors, while concerns have been raised about vulnerable groups, including older residents, young children, and those with underlying health conditions.

Health experts advise residents to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight during the hottest parts of the day, and check on neighbours who may be more vulnerable to heat-related illnesses. Symptoms such as dizziness, headaches, dehydration, and heat exhaustion should be taken seriously.

The extreme temperatures are also highlighting the growing challenges posed by climate change. Scientists note that rising global temperatures are making heatwaves more frequent, more intense, and longer-lasting than in previous decades. What was once considered exceptional summer weather is increasingly becoming part of a new climate reality.

Transport operators across London have introduced heat-related measures, including speed restrictions on some rail lines to prevent track damage. Schools and workplaces have also adapted schedules and activities to reduce risks associated with prolonged exposure to extreme heat.

Community organisations throughout Brent are encouraging residents to look after one another during the heatwave. Simple actions such as sharing water, checking on elderly neighbours, and ensuring pets have access to shade and fresh water can make a significant difference.

While forecasters expect temperatures to ease slightly later in the week, residents are advised to remain vigilant until cooler conditions return. In the meantime, Brent continues to experience a reminder of how extreme weather is becoming an increasingly important issue for communities across London.

Stay safe, stay hydrated, and support those who may need extra help during this period of exceptional heat.

We are working to build a stronger, healthier, and more connected community through our focus on community cohesion, health, movement, and wellbeing.

Our goal is simple: bring people together, reduce isolation, and create opportunities for everyone to feel included, supported, and valued. Too many people experience loneliness or feel disconnected from where they live, and we want to change that by creating welcoming spaces and positive activities that encourage real connection.

Through community-focused activities, we aim to support both physical and mental wellbeing. This includes encouraging movement, shared experiences, and opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds to take part, meet others, and build friendships.

A stronger community is one where people look out for each other, feel confident to get involved, and have access to activities that improve their wellbeing. Whether it’s through social connection, gentle physical activity, or simply having a space to talk and engage, every small step helps build something bigger.

We believe that when people come together, communities become healthier, safer, and more resilient. That’s what we are working towards every day.

If you would like to get involved, support, or learn more about what we do, please get in touch.

The Blessed Day of Arafah in Islam

The Day of Arafah is one of the most sacred and spiritually significant days in Islam. It falls on the 9th day of Dhul Hijjah, the final month of the Islamic calendar, during the annual pilgrimage of Hajj. For Muslims around the world, this day is a time of worship, repentance, prayer, and seeking closeness to Allah.

What Is the Day of Arafah?

The Day of Arafah is named after the plain of Arafat near the holy city of Mecca, where millions of pilgrims gather during Hajj. Standing at Arafat, known as Wuquf, is the most important pillar of Hajj. Pilgrims spend the day in prayer, remembrance, and supplication from noon until sunset.

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:

“Hajj is Arafah.”

This highlights the central importance of this blessed day in the pilgrimage.

A Day of Mercy and Forgiveness

The Day of Arafah is known as a day when Allah’s mercy descends abundantly upon His servants. Muslims believe that sincere repentance and heartfelt prayers on this day are greatly rewarded. It is a powerful opportunity to seek forgiveness for past sins and renew one’s faith.

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught that fasting on the Day of Arafah for those not performing Hajj expiates the sins of the previous year and the coming year. This makes fasting on Arafah one of the most recommended voluntary acts in Islam.

The Virtues of Fasting on Arafah

For Muslims who are not on pilgrimage, fasting on this day carries immense spiritual reward. The Prophet ﷺ said:

“Fasting on the Day of Arafah expiates the sins of the previous year and the coming year.”

Through fasting, Muslims practice self-discipline, gratitude, and devotion to Allah. It is also a reminder of humility and dependence upon the Creator.

A Day of Du’a (Supplication)

The Day of Arafah is considered one of the best times to make du’a. Muslims spend the day asking Allah for guidance, mercy, health, forgiveness, and success in this life and the Hereafter.

One of the famous supplications recited on this day is:

“La ilaha illa Allah, وحده لا شريك له، له الملك وله الحمد وهو على كل شيء قدير.”

Meaning:

“There is no god but Allah alone, without partner. To Him belongs all dominion and praise, and He has power over all things.”

Connection to Hajj

During Hajj, pilgrims gather at Mount Arafat in a scene of unity unlike any other in the world. People from every race, language, and nationality stand together in simple white garments, reminding humanity of equality before Allah.

The gathering symbolizes the Day of Judgment, when all people will stand before their Creator.

Lessons from the Day of Arafah

The Day of Arafah teaches many important lessons:

Repentance: Allah’s door of forgiveness is always open.
Unity: Islam brings together people of all backgrounds.
Humility: Wealth and status have no value before Allah without righteousness.
Hope: No matter how many mistakes a person has made, Allah’s mercy is greater.
How Muslims Spend the Day

Muslims around the world observe the Day of Arafah by:

Fasting
Reading the Qur’an
Making du’a and dhikr (remembrance of Allah)
Giving charity
Seeking forgiveness
Preparing spiritually for Eid al-Adha
Conclusion

The Day of Arafah is a priceless gift for Muslims — a day filled with mercy, forgiveness, and spiritual renewal. Whether standing on the plains of Arafat during Hajj or worshipping from home, Muslims cherish this blessed day as a chance to strengthen their relationship with Allah and seek His endless mercy.

It is a reminder that faith, sincerity, and repentance can transform the human heart and bring peace to the soul.

The Blessed Day of Friday in Islam

For the Muzani community and all Muslims around the world, Friday is a day of mercy, unity, reflection, and spiritual renewal. Known in Arabic as Jumu’ah, Friday is not simply the end of the working week — it is the most blessed day in Islam, honoured by Allah and treasured by believers.

A Day Chosen by Allah

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:

“The best day on which the sun has risen is Friday.”
— Sahih Muslim

Friday holds a special place because many important events are connected to it. Islamic tradition teaches that Prophet Adam عليه السلام was created on a Friday, entered Paradise on a Friday, and the Day of Judgment will also occur on a Friday.

For Muslims, this day is an opportunity to return to Allah with sincere hearts, seek forgiveness, and strengthen faith.

The Importance of Jumu’ah Prayer

One of the greatest acts of worship on Friday is the Jumu’ah congregational prayer. Muslims gather in the mosque to listen to the khutbah (sermon) and pray together as one community.

Allah says in the Qur’an:

“O you who believe! When the call is proclaimed for the prayer on Friday, hasten to the remembrance of Allah and leave off trade.”
— Surah Al-Jumu’ah (62:9)

The Friday prayer reminds the community about brotherhood, equality, and unity. Rich and poor, young and old, stand shoulder to shoulder before Allah.

Sunnahs of Friday

Muslims are encouraged to perform many beautiful Sunnahs on Friday, including:

Taking a bath (ghusl)
Wearing clean and good clothes
Applying perfume
Reciting Surah Al-Kahf
Sending abundant blessings upon the Prophet ﷺ
Making sincere du‘a before sunset

These practices help believers prepare spiritually and physically for this honoured day.

A Time for Community and Reflection

Friday is also a day to reconnect with family, neighbours, and the wider Muslim community. Visiting relatives, helping those in need, feeding the poor, and spreading peace are all beloved acts in Islam.

For the Muzani community, Friday can serve as a reminder of shared values:

compassion
respect
charity
faith
unity

In a world filled with distractions and hardships, Jumu’ah offers peace to the heart and renewal to the soul.

The Hour of Accepted Du‘a

Among the blessings of Friday is a special hour during which Allah accepts sincere supplications.

The Prophet ﷺ said:

“There is an hour on Friday during which no Muslim asks Allah for good except that He grants it.”
— Sahih al-Bukhari and Muslim

Muslims are encouraged to increase their prayers and ask Allah for guidance, mercy, health, peace, and success for themselves and their families.

Conclusion

Friday is a gift from Allah to the Muslim Ummah — a weekly opportunity to cleanse the heart, strengthen faith, and unite as one community. Through prayer, remembrance, kindness, and gratitude, believers can make the most of this blessed day.

May Allah bless the Muzani community and all المسلمين with peace, unity, forgiveness, and endless barakah on every Jumu’ah. Ameen.
