Security First

Security First Securing human rights defenders. Simply. Comprehensively. Knowing how to operate securely is no longer an aspirational ideal, but a requisite.

Human rights defenders are more at risk than ever. 2012 was one of the worst years for their harassment in recorded history. While there exist a number of instrumental online security tools, collectively, they face a number of problems – they are dispersed, complex, focused solely on cyber-security, quickly out-dated, often unavailable on mobile devices, and are lacking in a management system. Wha

t we need is a simple, easily accessible tool that collates and automates tools and helps human rights defenders secure not just themselves, but one-another. This is what Security First aims to provide.

Security First Co-Founder speaking on 's about "The Suvreillance State: The Proliferation of Monitoring Tech." Ranging from phishing to Myanmar. Give it a listen! :)

What is the surveillance state in 2021 made up of and who are in the crosshairs of their weapons. The story used to be: the tech industry develops a monitoring tool, governments would be slow to understand and adopt them. Two decades later, that script has been flipped; governments are not only acti...

With some of our favourite events like remote this year, we've been thinking about our carbon footprint in the past few years. It's high as we have had to travel a lot to train and work with people at risk. We're pleased to announce we are now offsetting it. Join us! https://ecologi.com/securityfirst

Debriefing the Election: who cracked the code?

Join us as we debrief on Ireland's General Election! We will be discussing the role that technology and online communications played in this historic vote.

We're delighted to have the following speakers:

Ellen Coyne, Head of Politics at joe.ie
Rachel Lavin, Data journalist with Sunday Business Post
Una Mullally, columnist with Irish Times, one half of the United Ireland podcast

In this session of Coffee and Circumvention, we will be debriefing on the maelstrom that was Ireland's 3.5 week long General Election 2020 campaign. What has been observed by those monitoring digital disruption to the Election? What do the election results mean for the current political landscape, and what this will have in store for the things that we care about: the impact technology is having an effect on our societies. Did signatories of the Fair Play Pledge live up to the 4 commitments of playing fair online during the campaign?
