📍 100 Miles in TWO DAYS for the Spinal Cord Injury Centre at starts tomorrow!

This weekend, Alanah Walters will once again be taking on a brilliant challenge for the RNOH Spinal Cord Injury Centre – this time walking 100 miles in just two days!

Alanah is taking on this challenge in recognition of the care and support her family received following her mother-in-law's life-changing spinal stroke. Having seen first-hand the impact of the spinal unit, she's determined to give back and help support other patients and families facing similar journeys.

So far, Alanah has raised an amazing £2,300+ and donations continue to come in 👏

Last year, Alanah took on 100km in 24 hours, fundraising for special bedside furniture to help patients at the SCIC. Swipe to see the day it arrived!

We'll be following her progress this weekend too. Please join us in wishing Alanah the very best of luck as she takes on this remarkable challenge.

Last year, charities claimed ÂŁ1.88bn in Gift Aid, which was up 10% on the previous year!

If you’re a UK taxpayer, ticking the Gift Aid box when you make a donation means RNOH Charity can make your money go 25% further at no extra cost to you. That’s 25% more for state-of-the-art equipment, 25% more towards a brighter environment and 25% more for vital medical research. It’s 25% more to help keep our world-class NHS hospital the best it can be.

Did you know we can also claim Gift Aid for any donations you’ve made in the past four years? Please contact us if you think this could apply to you.

We celebrated Gift Aid Awareness Day this week, a moment to highlight just how much of a difference one tick can make to charities like ours here at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Trust. Please tick the box if you can âś…

Huge thanks to Carmella de Keyser, mum to one of our young spinal surgery patients, who has sent copies of her new poetry book for the children of Coxen Ward – with a special dedication!

Carmella’s family spent nine days at RNOH in 2022 when her son underwent surgery. Her book, The Amygdala Safari, is a collection of poems celebrating the themes of overcoming, resilience, becoming and empathy, with one featuring the family’s spinal injury story and their journey through it.

Carmella says: “We greatly appreciated the wonderful care we received from everyone and all the effort staff made to make the children's ward as cheerful and comfortable as possible. The library and games area made an impression on me as it was colourful and beautifully kept.

“I hope that my books are enjoyed by patients staying on the ward. I am sending positive vibes to everyone at the hospital as I so value all of you and our NHS! One of the poems is called 'Titanium Phoenix Rising' about what happened to my child and is dedicated to all spinal injury warriors.”

Thank you for such a thoughtful gift, Carmella. The books are certain to be enjoyed by the children for a long time to come.
