Wild at Heart Foundation

Wild at Heart Foundation On a mission to end the suffering of free-roaming dogs through global sterilisation, education & welfare programmes. Believe in Dog.

Nikki Tibbles founded Wild at Heart Foundation in 2015 with one ambition: to compassionately reduce the world’s 600 million stray dog population. We are dedicated to working closely with our global project partners to facilitate sterilisation, education and welfare initiatives to achieve this goal.

75% of the global dog population do not have an owner to care for them. Wild at Heart Foundation wa

nts to end the suffering and improve the wellbeing of vulnerable stray dogs across the world; to make real and lasting change and to help abandoned and unloved dogs receive the care they deserve. Wild at Heart Foundation believe that each and every dog deserves the chance to live a healthy, happy life, free from the threat of pain, suffering, cruelty or neglect. We champion compassion and collaboration; we believe that there is a power in kindness and community, and that by working together towards a common goal, we can help make the world a better, kinder place.

These stray dogs, like countless others around the world, are the reason accessible veterinary care is such a vital part of our welfare mission.

They arrive suffering from injury, illness, and trauma; frightened, vulnerable, and often completely shut down. Many have already been turned away time and time again, seen as unowned and therefore unworthy of treatment, compassion, or love.

When you support our welfare mission, you’re doing far more than simply funding veterinary care. You’re giving injured, disabled, and abandoned dogs something they may never have known before…the chance of a better life.

Please consider supporting our work: every donation helps us provide lifesaving care and hope to dogs who have nothing and nobody. You’ll find the donation link in our bio.

We are excited to announce a forthcoming vital sterilisation initiative in Mexico alongside our long-standing partners at .

Up to 700 dogs in the Yucatán Peninsula will receive sterilisation surgeries, vaccinations, and urgent medical treatment.

This project will reach multiple vulnerable communities and the impact of this work will be life-changing, preventing thousands of unwanted litters, reducing suffering, protecting dogs against deadly diseases, and providing treatment for those already suffering from preventable illnesses.

Together, we’ll help create healthier futures for dogs and safer communities for the people who care for them, whilst driving sustainable, compassionate change where it’s needed most 🇲🇽🐕

Meet Sinbad, the cheeky mixed-breed sailor boy who became a legend during the second World War.

Originally brought aboard as a gift for a crew member, Sinbad quickly became far more than the ship’s mascot. Over 11 years at sea, he survived Atlantic storms and wartime combat alongside the crew he considered family.

Like Sergeant Stubby, highlighted back in March, Sinbad was the only other dog to be officially classified by a branch of the US military as a non-commissioned officer, rather than simply property.

Enlisted as Chief Dog, Sinbad had his own service record, signed with an ink paw print, along with military medals, a custom life jacket, and even his own hammock on the ship.

More than anything, Sinbad brought comfort, companionship, and morale to sailors during some of war’s darkest moments; a lasting reminder of the extraordinary bond between humans and dogs 🩶🐕

On National Rescue Dog Day, we stop to think about every dog still out there; those still waiting for safety, for care, for a life without fear or abuse, without having to fight simply to survive.

Around the world, countless millions of dogs know no other reality. Acknowledging that isn't enough; it’s why we do what we do.

Our mission is built on three simple but powerful pillars:

✂️ Sterilisation: because the most humane act is preventing suffering in the first place

🩺 Welfare: because every dog already born deserves care and dignity

📚 Education: because lasting change only happens when communities are part of it

Because animal welfare isn't a single rescue moment; it’s sustained prevention, care, and compassion.

Today is International Day of Families. At the heart of our work is a simple belief: that family isn’t just about where you come from, it’s about where you’re loved, protected, and given a chance to thrive.

For many stray dogs, the streets are all they’ve ever known; no safety, warm home, or regular meals, and nobody looking out for them.

This day reminds us that love and family can extend beyond our homes, to building a wider family through empathy and compassion, creating a circle of protection and care for those who need it most.

Join us in giving every stray dog the chance to feel safe and belong.

We’re excited to reintroduce and reignite a partnership in South Africa that we’ve proudly supported in the past 🇿🇦🐕

Based in De Doorns, Sidewalk Specials is a mass sterilisation and rescue organisation creating lasting, community-led change. Their work empowers township families to care for their pets with dignity, while addressing the root causes of animal suffering and overpopulation.

Through sterilisation clinics, outreach programmes, emergency vet care, and educational initiatives, they provide vital support to underserved communities; and in previous years, we have proudly supported their work through funding sterilisations, vaccinations, emergency food aid, and educational resources, including downloadable videos and worksheets, all helping countless animals and families in the process.

Collaboration is central to their mission. Sidewalk Specials actively share mass sterilisation protocols, resources, and guidance with other welfare organisations, helping expand humane population control efforts across the globe.

By dedicating time to building trust within local communities, they are helping foster a progressive culture of responsible pet ownership through understanding, education, and compassion.

We’re thrilled to be reconnecting with this incredible organisation, and hope that together, we can create healthier dog populations, safer communities, and lasting compassionate change.

Across the world, countless millions of stray dogs live in a constant state of fear and mistrust. Every day is about survival, avoiding danger, and searching for food.

For mothers with puppies, this reality is even harsher. Protecting a litter of vulnerable puppies while navigating an unforgiving environment is a relentless challenge no animal should have to face.

Sterilisation is the only humane, sustainable way to reduce the global stray dog population; addressing the root of the issue with compassion and long-term impact, preventing suffering before it begins and creating safer, healthier communities for both animals and people.

Every dog deserves a life free from fear, and every litter prevented is a step towards breaking the cycle.

Donate today and help fund life-changing sterilisation programmes; you’ll find the link in our bio.

Amid the chaos of the 1940 Blitz in London, a small, hungry crossbreed terrier was found wandering alone by a local air raid warden and the two quickly became inseparable.

Rip, as he became known, was soon adopted as a mascot by the Air Raid Patrol, and went on to become an unofficial search and rescue dog.

Guided by instinct, he would dig through rubble and debris, locating people trapped beneath collapsed buildings, reportedly helping save over 100 lives.

For his extraordinary bravery, Rip was awarded the Dickin Medal, one of the highest honours for animal heroism, and he wore it proudly on his collar for the rest of his life.

From a stray in the ruins to a lifesaving legend, Rip proved that even in humanity’s darkest hours, courage can come from the most unexpected places 🩶🐕

Transformation Tuesday: from fear to safety, from survival to love.

This beautiful soul’s rescue journey began on our founder Nikki’s trip to Ukraine, where compassion met courage in the most powerful way.

What started as a moment of empathy turned into a lifetime of kindness, understanding, and second chances.

This is what happens when we choose to care and respond with love. One act of compassion can rewrite an entire story.

Be the reason someone, human or animal, gets their transformation.
