We’ve been proud to partner with Greene King since 2012, working together across pubs, communities and campaigns to support people living with cancer, and raising an incredible £25 million along the way.

Lucy, from Staffordshire, who joined Greene King in 2024, leads the Macmillan partnership and has helped take it from strength to strength over the last two years. From driving record-breaking fundraising - including £4 million raised in 2025 – to being a positive force behind campaigns like ‘The Early Bell’ and ‘Shoulder To Shoulder’, tackling stigma around men’s health and encouraging open conversations about cancer. Her work has helped reach new audiences and spark important conversations about cancer.

We wanted to recognise the incredible impact Lucy has had on our partnership, which is why she was awarded our ‘With Ambition Award’ at our Thanks to You Awards, celebrating the incredible people who give their time, energy and experience to Macmillan and people affected by cancer.

“Seeing the amazing work the Macmillan team does every day – from healthcare professionals to the people on the support line – is incredibly motivating for me. I feel very lucky to be able to play a small part in supporting that work, and it pushes me to try and do something each day that I can feel proud of.

"However, none of this would be possible without the commitment from Greene King’s pubs and the many team members across the business, whose fundraising continues to support these efforts,” says Lucy.

Thank you, Lucy – and to everyone across Greene King for everything you’re doing to make a difference in communities across the UK.

Ann, took on the exhilarating Abseil at the Races challenge last year to help support people affected by cancer.

"It was so thrilling to be on the roof of the Knavesmire Stand looking out over the racecourse. The abseil team were so encouraging and I felt totally reassured even when I did have to lower myself over the edge with my legs shaking!"

So, if you’ve ever fancied reaching new heights to support people affected by cancer, give abseiling a go as part of Macmillan Raceday weekend at on Friday 12th and 13th June.

You’ll get a bird’s eye view of race course whilst you descend the 80-foot drop, and once you’ve completed the challenge, you’ll be able to enjoy a full day at the races as a county stand attendee.

We’re taking a moment to celebrate Sam, who is a finalist for our Rising Star award which celebrates early-career professionals who show exceptional promise and a strong commitment to transforming cancer care for the future.

As cancer treatments improve and people live longer, more patients are left managing complex side effects that impact their day-to-day lives – often far from major cancer centres.

At James Paget Hospital in Norfolk, Clinical Specialist Macmillan Physiotherapist Sam Nelson has addressed this gap by establishing a dedicated cancer physiotherapy service.

Working across the haematology-oncology ward and a new outpatient service, Sam ensures patients are seen quickly and receive tailored input.

He has reduced waits for physiotherapy from several days to the same day, significantly improving access to care. Still early in his cancer career, Sam has shown exceptional initiative and leadership

“I can support patients to play the keyboard again or pick their grandkids off the floor,” he says. “I recently helped a patient to get back to using her football season ticket – something she never thought she'd be able to do. These are the things that really matter to people.”

Best of luck to Sam and all of our incredible professionals and partners at our Professionals Excellence Awards. 💚

Getting access to the right care and support when living with cancer can often depend on who you are and where you live.

In farming and rural communities, cancer can often be harder to talk about and get support due to isolation, long travel distances for treatment, demanding work patterns and limited local services.

The Farming Community Network is delivering vital work to address these barriers through its Rural Communities Cancer Project, providing trusted and tailored support directly in farming, rural and migrant worker communities across the UK.

The team behind The Farming Community Network have worked together with Macmillan, people with lived experience of cancer and other agricultural organisations to launch initiatives like its ‘Nip it in the Bud’ campaign which focuses on promoting early detection and screening.

The campaign brings the topic of cancer into spaces such as agricultural shows and farmers' marts, sharing real stories from farmers who have been affected by cancer from across the UK.

Its aim is to challenge stigma, normalise conversations about cancer, improve awareness and highlight options for screening and support for anyone who may have worries about possible symptoms of cancer.

The team at The Farming Community Network are doing incredible work to ensure fairer cancer care, no matter who you are or where you live.

That’s why they’ve been selected as finalists for the Community Impact Award at our 2026 Professional Excellence Awards taking place later this week.

Congratulations to The Farming Community Network team and all the individuals committed to making change for farming and rural communities across the UK. 💚

Ahead of our Professionals Excellence Awards later this week, we wanted to celebrate one of our finalists, Sarah Pilsworth, a Senior Specialist Speech and Language Therapist at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Using her clinical expertise to ensure patients with head and neck cancer receive the personalised support they need, Sarah delivers a truly bespoke service.

For people living with head and neck cancer losing the ability to speak or swallow can be life changing.

Sarah’s pioneering work includes adapting voice prostheses to enable safe, effective communication for laryngectomy patients, as well as creating vital long-standing patient support groups. Alongside this, she is passionate about sharing her extensive knowledge to empower other speech and language therapists locally and nationally through the forums and networks she has established.

Sarah says: “So many patients have told us that our service has enabled them to live as normally as they can after life-changing surgery,” “Cancer treatment is tough, and we’re here to support them through it. It’s incredibly rewarding, and I’m lucky to work with such a dedicated, supportive team.”

Sarah is nominated for the Whatever it Takes - Clinical Expertise award, recognising outstanding individuals who embody Macmillan’s values of heart, strength, and ambition - always going above and beyond to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those affected by cancer. It also recognises those in registered or specialist clinical roles who deliver, lead or innovate in the provision of cancer care and support.

We wish Sarah and our other finalists the best of luck. 💚

Meet Becky, taking on 365 challenges in 2026 to support people affected by cancer 💚

Becky has set out on an extraordinary challenge to raise vital funds for Macmillan and to shine a light on cancer care across the UK. Originally from Norfolk and after dedicating nearly four decades of her life to nursing, including many years as a Macmillan Nurse, Becky is giving back in the most inspiring way.

“Throughout my nursing career I spent around 38 years working in palliative care, working as a Macmillan Nurse for some of these years. It is time to give something back and I have one more big fundraising challenge in me.”

Her aim is to complete 365 things across the year, comprising of walking all 214 Wainwrights, starting with Barrow and taking on the Macmillan Mighty Hike at Gowbarrow in June. Walking all 116 Outlying Fells, swimming the 17 accessible lakes and walking the remaining ones. She will also swim 12 tarns and complete the challenge with 6 fun bonuses to reach the 365 mark.

Every step, swim, and summit will count and we couldn’t be more proud to support Becky on this incredible journey.

Becky has set herself an ambitious fundraising target of £36,500, £100 for every day of the year, to help ensure no one faces cancer alone. If you’d like to follow her progress or support her challenge, click here: https://www.justgiving.com/page/becky-christmas-2
