This free of charge programme will provide parents and professionals with practical parenting strategies and advice on the home environment.

The young child is capable of independent activity right from the start. To nurture and to encourage this allows for the fullest expression of their potential – a true aid to life.

Knowing the how and the why will help us as parents and carers to recognise and so cultivate this natural tendency for independence from the very beginning. This will give us the tools to foster a truly collaborative relationship with the child in our care. Knowledge of child development will be covered as it will illuminate important considerations when we perform the daily activities, such as dressing, eating, toileting and sleeping; important rituals that given time, will grant us simple ways to adopt Montessori principles in the home.

This course will be held IN PERSON at our Montessori Training Centre in London, over 4 evenings in September 2026.

We hope you'll be able to grasp, through these student testimonials, the true value of becoming a Montessori Teacher for 3 to 6 year olds by studying our AMI 3-6 Diploma. As many of our students say, the course gives you a whole new understanding of the child, how to observe children correctly, how not to interfere, how to guide them to become better and more fulfilled children and eventually better adults that will contribute to making the world a better place. Teachers hold so much power and it is incredibly rewarding to see the child develop fully when given the right conditions to do so.

And, as our students also say, the course isn't just about understanding and guiding children better but also about understanding ourselves and our own childhoods, life journey and development.

Our Training Centre is located in the heart of central London but tucked away on a quiet street which makes it an ideal place to study and as well as to enjoy London. If you live in London or the UK, we'd highly recommend booking a visit so that you can get a feel of what it will be like to study with us, walk around our training centre, see our practice and lecture rooms and meet our trainers. Alternatively, or if you live abroad, we'd recommend booking a call with our course advisors who will be able to talk to you further about our Diploma.

Montessori education is a 360 degree approach to teaching and learning. As a or when applying Montessori to your own parenting or line of work, you will experience the joy and spark in the children's eyes as you teach them abstract concepts through concrete, hands-on materials and real life experiences that will make learning a whole lot more meaningful to them and a whole lot more rewarding to you.

If you are thinking of studying our AMI 3-6 Diploma, we've got something that will be useful to you. We're holding our last Online Course Q&A this Thursday 23rd July at 2.30pm (UK time). Join us to ask any questions you have and to hear about our course content and application process. If you've got questions about any of our other courses, you can ask them here too.

Graduations, moving up ceremonies and farewells are really special at the Maria Montessori School. Due to our classes being mixed-age, the whole class doesn't graduate at the same time. Instead, each child graduates when he or she reaches the age milestone or most importantly, is ready. Therefore, there's a select number of children who go through these processes at any given time.

Here are some of this year's ceremonies. Our Hampstead Lower Elementary class (6-9 year olds) marked the occasion with the graduating children reading a story or poem chosen by them to the rest of their class. Those who were graduating then went round in a circle and hugged each of their classmates goodbye. The teachers then encouraged the classmates to say any words they wanted to communicate to the graduating child.

Our Hampstead Upper Elementary (9-12 years) graduates each wrote a letter about their time in the class, reflecting on times they had enjoyed, classmates they wanted to thank and fond memories with their teachers.

In the Children's House at Hampstead (Garden Class) (for 2.5 - 6 year olds) those who graduated created a timeline of the first 6 years of their life. Each child used a piece of card for every year in a scrapbook style with photos from when the child was a baby, 1 year old, 2 years old, 3, 4, 5 and 6 and wrote memories (or things told to them by their parents) they had from each year of their life.

The Adolescent Programme (12-18 year olds) had a very special end of year. They had a dinner al fresco in our Hampstead garden with the meal partly cooked by themselves (Pork Belly and Rice) with their parents (who also brought some food) and sibblings. This dinner was followed by speeches that were written and delivered by the graduates and later had a sleepover at school.

It is always so special to witness these ceremonies because there are strong feelings of love, friendship, warmth, companionship, and a genuine sense of confidence. There is definitely not a dry eye in the house on these occasions!

A language exercise at the Maria Montessori School - Bayswater in which two Children's House children (aged 2.5 - 6 years) collaborate to write out names using the Montessori Moveable Alphabet material. Some photos from our Elementary Classes at the Maria Montessori School - Hampstead. Our Lower Elementary class (for 6-9 year olds) put on a production of 'Cats' and our Upper Elementary class (for 9-12 year olds) put on a production of 'The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe'.

Every aspect of each production was handled by the children including the creation of all props made from scratch.

In our Lower Elementary class, some children volunteered to take on 'stage manager' roles where they'd ensure the scenes flowed properly, the singing or reciting was on cue and the entrance and exits were done in a timely manner. They even helped a few children who had forgotten a few of their lines by whispering to them!

Our Upper Elementary class made the wardrobe which they used to enter and exit Narnia out of cardboard and wood and even handled the sound production in their show! They played cello, violin and drums to give the audience an idea of when a scene was jolly or when the witch was approaching by playinig higher or lower chords! The 4 children characters in the Lion, the Witch the Wardrobe where played by 2 of our children each, who split the scenes between them and cleverly handled it by wearing green t-shirts for scene continuity.

Andrea studied the AMI 3-6 Diploma over two years at the Maria Montessori Institute and recently graduated. She shares how the course transformed her, not just as a Montessori teacher but also on a personal level.

We hear this so much from our students and graduates because Montessori deeply resonates and simply makes sense. The pedagogy looks at the whole child and treats him or her as an individual - the opposite of the 'one size fits all' so prevalent in traditional education. As a teacher, it is incredibly rewarding to see the child develop confidence in their own abilities and with it, a sense of joy and agency over their own learning.

We offer our AMI 3-6 Diploma in lots of different study formats to meet your needs: full time (over one year, daytime), part-time (over 2 years, daytime), part-time (over 2 years, evening) and modular course (blended, in person and online components).

Our Elementary Classes at both our Bayswater and Hampstead school sites, had their annual Sports Day today. The children all took turns in participating in long jump, 500m sprints, relay races, throwing, egg races, tug of war and circuits/obstacle course. As is the Montessori way, the atmosphere was one of collaboration and companionship, with all the children cheering and supporting each other. There were also races and tug of wars for teachers and parents which really nurtured a sense of community which is such a key element of Montessori education.
